Sakana AI introduces Frontier Intelligence Group

Sakana AI says its Frontier Intelligence Group (FIG) starts from the view that intelligence is not yet “solved” and that better alternatives to Transformers and language modeling may exist. The company highlights existing research including AI Picbreeder, which explores open-ended artificial systems, and Smart Cellular Bricks, which investigates collective intelligence and self-repair in physical systems without a central brain.
