Positive users praise the Steam Controller vision tracker auto-charger project as an amazing tech idea, while negative users dismiss it as peak laziness and AI slop.

Tracking points are bit finicky, it tries to remember... success not guaranteed. Surprisingly, easy to try yourself. The RPMs are tuned for Steam Controllers 2026 so...

@realjvreis @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware 1989. Technology can last a long time if we want it to.

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware I was really hoping someone would do this at some point, and it’s absolutely amazing that you managed to get it working so quickly 😄
The internet never ceases to amaze me.

@FossPrime @Dexerto @valvesoftware 🥹❤️

@dorianmuthig @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware It did seem to strip the finish on the plastic... I don't see any damage on the desk. Rubber feet might drastically improve acceleration and handling.

@AspaceN @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware This is not a Mercedes Benz. Running both motors at the exact same speed to try and go forward will often steer just as much as you move forward, in unpredictable ways. Luckily there is an IMU and Gyros that can help correct course.

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware genius
(reminds me of bristlebots)

@verylazypixels @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware It helped that I had experience adding Steam Controller support to Moonlight... See the massive spec file sourced from Steam Link for Android decompiling.
Thanks for the inspiration! BTW. Did you try and do audio playback over WebHID? Is it possible?

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware This seems wrong on so many levels… what does the abrasion on the bottom of the controller and your desk look like? How often can you do this before you notice visible scuffs, and further, how many days until the abrasion reaches a button?

@MrHaotoshi @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware Just over 100,000. This is not my first Steam Controller 2026 project... The first involved adding Steam Controller support to moonlight, which took a lot more tokens to reverse engineer from the Steam Link Android app. I don't use Claude so my tokens are pretty cheap.
Anyone else immediately think of that scene in Pantheon where David possess a phone and makes it walk across the table w/ vibration alone

@divinecomedycap @FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware the biggest thing I hate generative AI for is creating people like you who THINK they know what they are talking about and go on tyrants against all forms of AI because "gen AI bad that means all AI bad"
this is using image recognition AI locally run on a computer

@FossPrime @dorianmuthig @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware Use felt instead of rubber. It might actually reduce the noise of the vibration against the table as well

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware one lake disappeared just for this

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware Maybe have it track the orientation of the puck and have it rotate itself before it moves, so it moves the puck around less when it gets to it

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware Is that keyboard from 1994?

@FossPrime @Dexerto @HardwareSteam @valvesoftware I don’t even care if you used ai for this. THATS AMAZING

What I really want is an allocation for a Steam Machine... @get_mechanism @valvesoftware Anyone? I'll try to put this in the Steam store
