NVIDIA H200 China approval reports retracted
Reports claiming U.S. Department of Commerce approval for NVIDIA H200 sales to China have been retracted across the internet. A Tencent News article referencing clearances for shipments to Alibaba, Tencent, JD.com and eight other firms now returns a 404 error. The removed content referenced collapsed negotiations over the chips under existing U.S. export restrictions.
As a reminder, the "China doesn't want H200s" thing is fake + a negotiating tactic to get even better GPUs
I think this is a complete failure of the theory of mind and we have no evidence this ever was true. This hypothesis was first proposed when negotiations over H20s began; then B30s. The US keeps improving the offer NOT because this is a clever Chinese ploy.
