Google Cloud announces Gemini Agent for work with multi-model orchestration

Google announced a unified "Gemini Agent" for enterprise knowledge work with persistent context across devices and multi-agent orchestration.

TLDR

Google Cloud says Gemini can handle questions, knowledge work and coding from one prompt box, maintain context across devices and create sub-agents for multi-step tasks. It also says the agent can orchestrate across multiple models. One observer says Workspace team agents with their own email, calendar and Drive could be convenient for companies already using Google's apps, but argues that memory and background execution alone offer little reason to switch assistants.

Alex zhou@AlexcyzhouGoogle’s Gemini agent is here. But “it keeps working after you close your laptop” is getting harder to sell as a differentiator. dots can work across apps and remember context. Claude’s cloud-based Cowork can run tasks in the background. Grok Bot supports ongoing roles, with Team Bots that can join Slack. What’s worth watching from Google is how its team agents fit directly into Workspace: their own email, calendar and Drive, tasks from colleagues in chats or document comments, and edits attributed to the agents themselves. If your company already runs on Google’s apps, that could be genuinely convenient. Otherwise, memory, background execution and delegation alone don’t give you much reason to switch assistants again.1h
