Hermes Agent overtakes OpenClaw on OpenRouter's agent rankings with 911 billion tokens
Story Overview
Hermes Agent from Nous Research has surged to the top of OpenRouter's productivity, personal agents, and coding agents rankings by volume of tokens processed, hitting 911 billion in the tracked views while OpenClaw slips to second or third with 146 billion.
Token counts track actual routing activity
OpenRouter's live leaderboards reflect real user-driven token consumption rather than lab tests or votes, so the overtake signals a measurable uptick in activity for persistent-memory, tool-heavy agents over messaging-focused ones.
OpenClaw's NPM momentum sits beside the ranking drop
Social chatter notes a record 4.27 million weekly downloads for OpenClaw even as its token share on OpenRouter falls, leaving unclear whether the two metrics point in different directions or measure separate kinds of engagement.
Many users criticized OpenClaw's creator as narcissistic and hypocritical after Hermes Agent overtook it atop OpenRouter rankings, while a few praised Hermes for its stronger developer community.

@ns123abc even followed me btw
Lol the openclaw guy been acting mad insecure ever since Hermes hit #1 on openrouter and people stopped mass shilling his nonsense
It's so over

@ns123abc Nonsense. And the pattern of anonymous accounts trashing him is getting old.

@BenjaminBadejo You can virtue signal all you want and pretend oblivious about all his trash talk past 3 months but please don't mistake me or the people to be that naive

I am not taking any side and I do not understand the argument, but hype cycles appear and disappear. Hermes is where OpenClaw was, and it is not certain that it will be the last similar project on the hype list that is ahead of us, or even that such a product will stay on the market for long.

@ns123abc Hermes vs. OpenClaw is a great case study tbh. For mw what OpenClaw lacks that Hermes really has is a strong developer community. OpenClaw feels like its just Peter (even though its not).

@ns123abc He got token mogged and now is on to philosophy and hiding behind "non-profit" label

@ns123abc No, he actually didn’t even mention Hermes and has been doing great things. Try being less of a talker and more of a contributor! Enough AI drama! Build something!

@ns123abc i think it fell off even more since may

@ns123abc They're two fundamentally different things, Openclaw is the agentic framework for future well thought out agent systems to be built on top of, whereas Hermes is more out the box for everyone personal AI assistant. It's like a tunable super car compared to a reliable Honda.

@ns123abc Hermes is only popular because of Openclaw 😂

@ns123abc Teknium cooked his ass. 😆

@ns123abc @nnnzzznnnzz He blocked me lol

@ns123abc Too bad they’re both vibe coded slops, trying to fix some bugs on hermes was horrendous

@ns123abc i switched to hermes after using openclaw for 3 days

@ns123abc I mean I’d be mad if I was him too lol

@ns123abc He's Jewish

@ns123abc openrouter rankings have been a gift and a curse at the same time
cant tell if people actually like hermes or just hate the openclaw spam

@ns123abc the most hyped product i have ever seen in my life

@ns123abc Hermes has horrible support for orchestrated teams. It’s fine for simple shit but all our teams are hierarchies with comms channels per bot
Two different audiences and use cases, both can exist there is no need for drama but
🍿😁🍿

@BenjaminBadejo You’re falsely attacking anonymous users now bc what you said turned out to be untrue? That’s some low integrity behavior
Take a step back and ask yourself, who he’s referring to with “They copied..”
