AI authorship matters when writers claim expertise, one reader argues

One reader says they don’t mind AI for internal notes or technical how-tos, but want public-facing experts to make a real effort to develop and understand their own arguments.

    TLDR

A post challenges the idea that good writing makes AI authorship irrelevant. Its author distinguishes internal notes and technical how-tos from public-facing work that positions a writer as an expert: with limited time to read, they want to know the author has thought through their own arguments. They also argue that human writing is more fun and distinctive until AI can capture the finer nuances of someone’s style and approach.

@NatPurseri see a lot of “if it’s good writing, why does it matter if ai wrote it,” and my thoughts are basically: 1) it depends on the function of the writing — i don’t really care if you do internal note taking or write a technical how-to with ai. but attention is a finite resource, and if i’m going to spend time reading public-facing work where you’re positioning yourself as an expert, i want to know you’ve made a real effort to formulate and understand your own arguments 2) if people are constantly pangram-clocking your work, that’s evidence it’s not, in fact, good ai writing 3) until ai can capture the finer nuances of someone’s style and approach, human writing makes for a far more fun and distinctive read. take it as a compliment! i want to hear from you, not a flat, anesthetized version of you

@signulllwhen you write you should focus on simple words, simple sentences, & a rhythm that captivates / inspires the reader to continue. or i guess you can be like ai researchers on here who write cryptic hard to understand content. whatever works for you.
