@SophiaCai99 Is Sacks really calling the shots here, or is it Peter Thiel? Sacks would be a nobody if Thiel hadn't picked him up as a Stanford student and pulled him into his projects. We should always wonder if Sack serves as Thiel's avatar.
A draft of the order shared with @politico stressed the voluntary nature of the review:
“Nothing in this section shall be construed to authorize the creation of a mandatory governmental licensing, preclearance, or permitting requirement for the development, publication, release, or distribution of new AI models, including frontier models.”

@SophiaCai99 Do you really think AI cares about national borders? If any other country develops AI quicker, it will dominate the world. In Germany we all use US AI. If China makes a better one, we will use Chinese AI. Nobody cares about government control. People just want the best tools.

@SophiaCai99 @mehdirhasan Yeah I generally can’t stand big tech and especially David Sacks, but this was a stupid EO. I also think the “AI race with China” is made up nonsense pushed by AI companies in the US to get subsidies & sanction foreign competition for purely monetary reasons
