Tobi is right again. It’s the beginning of the end for civil liberties.
Canada is on a dark path toward the information totalitarianism of the “Liberals”.
The bombed out shell of the actual Liberal party was successfully taken over by members of the current cabal around the time of the 2011 defeat to Harper .
They reversed into the brand like a malevolent hermit crab and have successfully occupied it since. Whatever they are, they are not the Liberal Party.
There are other notable examples of similar manoeuvres.
Donald Trump, after a long contemplation of running for POTUS and entering the fray first with the Reform Party for a few months in 2000, finally took over the Republican Party with his victory in 2016. He became a Republican first in 2009.
The current inhabitants of the UK Labour Party are substantially made up of members of The Fabian Society.
This secretive left wing cabal with unseemly social control ambitions began in 1884 and that date was likely the reason for the title of Orwell’s book, 1984. Orwell was a democratic socialist but despised the authoritarian ambitions of the Fabians.
Very recently in BC we saw an attempt by an alliance of Ontario Progressive Conservatives and BC Liberals to take over the BC Conservative Party using a carefully selected, and wholly unqualified, liberal called Caroline Elliott as the “puppet” candidate .
There are many examples of an established political brand being taken over like this. As Tobi knows, it’s easy to buy a company than found a start up.
As always, it’s not the words and actions that matter so much as the intentions. When the ultimate intentions of politicians are opaque and/or cloaked in alleged “greater good” objectives then you have good cause for worry.
