    TLDR

A grant recipient at IDAI Institute says the Advanced Research and Invention Agency awarded £550k to develop dovetail, an automated, formally verified protocol-design system. They say it will let AI agents design protocols for interactions even when they do not trust each other to cooperate. The recipient also plans an open-source release.

Samuele Marro@MarroSamueleThank you @cosmos_inst for having me on your Substack! Centralization is often motivated by efficiency under mistrust: it's often simpler to hand power to a central entity to keep everyone in check when you don't trust your fellow human beings (or agents). The solution is coordination. We will develop dovetail, an automated, formally verified protocol design system. dovetail enables agents to design ad-hoc protocols for any interaction, even when they don't trust each other to cooperate (think Prisoner's Dilemma). Funded by a £550k grant from the Advanced Research and Invention Agency, we at @idai_institute will turn protocol design into something as automatic as compilation. Look forward to our open-source release!5h
