Europe launches Next Frontier AI initiative with €265 million funding
SPRIND says ten teams across five countries can receive up to €26.5 million each, while some researchers on X argue the total is a promising start rather than true frontier-scale money.

SPRIND said on X that its Next Frontier AI initiative will back 10 teams across five European countries with up to €26.5 million each in equity-free funding to build "frontier AI labs for Europe," with work focused on physical AI, world models, continual learning and automated science. The announcement's big number quickly gave way to a more practical question on X: what the money actually adds up to, and whether it matches the scale implied by the pitch.

@eliebakouch The EU is doing to little for AI and when it does something it’s misdirected. All these grants that throw a few million across dozens of projects will take us nowhere compared to one big but done right project. No idea what this is supposed to achieve honestly
@tensorqt Congrats! Looking forward to it;)
@SPRIND Awesome stuff!
