Google presents Sprout, a semi-autonomous plant rover built with Gemini

In a video uploaded Oct. 28, 2026, Google for Developers presented Sprout, a semi-autonomous rover carrying a real Monstera. Google describes it navigating an office in search of sunlight, pinging for help and caring for fellow office plants.

The video transcript identifies a TurtleBot 4 base and a Pixel 11 that serves as Sprout's face and eyes. It describes a camera and LiDAR for mapping the room and avoiding obstacles, plus a sensor in the planter to detect when the Monstera needs water. The transcript says Sprout asks when it needs something. DynamicWebPaige, who says she watched the team build it, adds that Sprout texts its location by the window when it gets thirsty.

According to the transcript, Gemini Flash handles vision, ER 2.0 handles segmentation, and Gemini Live provides the voice.
