arXiv Implements Stricter Measures Against AI-Generated Submissions

Last week was marked by a kerfuffle that arose due to the latest draconian measures that @arXiv implemented in order to fight AI slop. While I do think that AI-generated content is a real challenge for every form of communication, and reasonable measures to keep it reliable are worth taking, the proposed measures that were implemented are misguided, and likely to backfire. They also added fuel to the fire of all the issues that we've been having with scientific research and discovery over the past half a century, if not longer. My own take is that most of these debates will be moot pretty soon, if they are not already. But I still wanted to put out a few of my own thoughts on the issue, which you can read in the blog post shared in the first comment.
