So on this engineer's team 2 of the 10 devs are v early career (an intern, a fresh grad), and they have assigned mentors

@GergelyOrosz Also they are very generous with performance. They offer training programs, extended PIPs and every opportunity to improve. You have to be a determined slacker to get fired from NVIDIA.
I feel like there is this entire economy of professional coasters that fight over positions in tech where they can coast and collect big paychecks. do you really want to live like that? what is wrong with you people

@GergelyOrosz Every Nvidia employee I’ve met was unbelievably kind and tried really hard to help me (or others!). They all seem very happy there, great culture :)

@GergelyOrosz Is that somehow structural/cultural (to a reasonable degree), or purely a consequence of how successful Nvidia is at this moment in time? I think we should remember that despite the last couple of years "company turning record profits not doing layoffs" is perfectly normal.
@yacineMTB You're applying too much rationality to the people in charge IMO. I've watched larger companies get rid of people over a technicality, the team says it will hurt the project, HR does it anyway, project fails, millions lost. They live in a different world.
@yacineMTB At Intel that was most people. They were just trying to keep their job until the 401k had enough in it. They weren't trying to build anything new and they hated those of us who were.

@GergelyOrosz The fact this is special really shocks me. Even at McKinsey of all places people constantly helped each other with everything. How toxic does a culture need to get for elbowing to actually occur
