@peterwildeford I see how one can read that part that way. But the piece as a whole reads as a defense of the current trajectory. So I am unsure - perhaps this is voluntary slow as defense against involuntary slow?

@peterwildeford Until I see actual action in this direction to make it happen (they have the resources), then I’ll file this under “wishful thinking but won’t actually do it” at best. We’ve heard this all before…
Also I wouldn’t say “slowing frontier development” is equal to a pause.

@peterwildeford I don't believe that they mean this given their track record. Slowing down isn't the same as pausing, the language is very watered down and hidden in a post mostly about accelerating/automating. With Anthropic I do lean towards believing them, they just don't go far enough.

@Noahpinion This would be great. I mean maybe it's because they're hitting a wall internally and want to pretend they're going to slow advancement out of altruism, but it's still good to have this kind of precedent set for if it ever reaccelerates.
