A 'reset company' strategy may shift focus from AI model quality to tokens

One user argues that framing a company around frequent resets may draw attention away from model efficiency and its product offering.

    TLDR

A user argues that frequent resets can get people focused on usage and tokens rather than model quality, efficiency or the product offering. They compare the strategy to J.Crew’s repeated 60% sales, which they say taught customers to wait for discounts, and contrast it with what they describe as Apple’s avoidance of explicit discounts. They add that the distinction may not matter much in the end.

@signulllone of the most interesting things about framing yourself as the reset company, & just doing it often as possible is that ppl start to focus way more on usage & tokens than the quality / efficiency of the models or the product offering. esp for the ppl on here who are addicted to tokens. j crew ran into this problem by constantly running 60% sales so it trained its customers to always expect this, so ppl wouldn’t buy anything if it wasn’t 60% off. compare this to a brand like apple that never has runs any sort of explicit discounts. in the end none of this likely matters all that much but it is a fascinating strategy.2h
