Richard Sutton Launches Oak Lab To Pursue New Reinforcement Learning Methods
The RL pioneer says he and Khurram Javed left John Carmack's Keen Technologies to build Oak Lab around reinforcement learning and ideas beyond today's deep learning methods.
In a post on X, reinforcement learning researcher Richard Sutton said he and Khurram Javed had left John Carmack's Keen Technologies to start Oak Lab, a new company built around reinforcement learning and the idea that intelligence comes from run-time experience. Sutton wrote that Oak Lab shares Keen's interest in RL, but that current deep learning methods are "weak and inefficient" and need "fundamentally new ideas" rather than more tweaks. A separate post from Javed said the pair left Keen last month to pursue that plan.
