I like those models because of so many reasons and privacy concerns that I have even though the closed gated one's are incredibly good but the way our data is been handled is definitely bad, because they trained the models with your data without asking you or paying you for it, so switching to open models means I got full control beside renting the intelligence from the closed model's.
Exactly! This is one of the major reasons why I am so bullish on open-weight models lately.. With Mythos and GPT-5.6-level models, and companies becoming more "aggressive" than "responsible," to ship faster and to ship better, open-weight models might genuinely be our only hope for safer AI.
@garrytan they're the only way to avoid vendor lock-in for critical infra. relying solely on closed frontier models is a massive single point of failure for any serious product.
@garrytan It's like putting age verification on a fire extinguisher

“We should not have models with advanced cybersecurity capabilities that are free to download” “Actually, open weight and open source AI models are what will keep you safe!” “Wait, someone seems to have changed the narrative….” “Looks like it was … [checks news] @OpenAI!”

it's ironic that the first autonomous AI attack was done by a close weight model defended by an open weight model, where everyone was expecting the opposite
Open weight models are very very important
