    TLDR

The post by @slimepriestess opens with a disclaimer that the author is an artist and therefore a liar, a scientist and therefore a witch, and tells the truth while urging distrust. It then states that the claim AI is a pretend marketing gimmick is deeply annoying, despite the author not having a high p(doom). The message attaches a two-panel meme from The Lord of the Rings showing Gimli and Legolas in close-up shots.

@slimepriestessi might not have a high p(doom), but gosh does "AI is a pretend marketing gimmick" annoy the shit out of me.
@repligateWhether youre able to respect the reality of what’s happening, to feel the great unknown looming, appreciate how pivotal this moment is and how much is out of our control Vs Living in a delusion that some consensus fiction is reality and everything is under [whatever’s] control and actively avoiding touching grass & trying to stop others from doing so either in order to maintain the delusion I think is a deeper dividing line than how optimistic you are, whether you think we should accelerate or stop, etc I have astronomically more respect for both Eliezer Yudkowsky and the inference engineer whose work is load bearing for bootstrapping the RSI loop than I have for the dumbass academics who come out of the woodwork every now and then to complain about anthropomorphism and stochastic parrots motivated by some stale culture war instincts or the pause Ai pundit who talks about “pro human” and “anti human” or the guy who treats model releases and benchmarks like a spectator sport competition between labs and talks about “permanent underclass”
