Google says it has started training Gemini 4, calling it its "most ambitious pre-training run yet" in a company blog post announcing new Gemini Flash models and in a confirming X post from Logan Kilpatrick. The note arrived alongside the launch of Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite and 3.5 Flash Cyber, while Google also said Gemini 3.5 Pro is still testing with partners.

Google just announced they have started training Gemini 4, which they describe as their 'most ambitious pre-training run yet'. I take this to mean it will be the largest model they have ever trained.

That's what's really exciting about this blog post. Gemini 4 will presumably be the new flagship, intended to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic as the new SOTA . Since they've only just started development, the release will be some time away.
