Engineer Runs MNIST Training in Under One Second in Chrome
Eric Zhang shows jax-js running MNIST training inside Chrome on a MacBook Air.
TLDR
Eric Zhang, an engineer at Thinking Machines Lab, stated he trained an MNIST model on his MacBook Air in less than one second using Chrome. He built the example last year as a demo for his jax-js library and made no changes to the training script. Zhang credited the speed to recent WebGPU kernel optimization and dispatch improvements in newer versions of jax-js. A video in the post shows the browser window executing the training.
