    TLDR

Grace Shao posted on X that podcast reporting by Jasmine Sun shows US anti-AI views rooted in distrust of big tech and government. She added that her own analysis for Business Insider presents the opposite picture among Chinese citizens. Taylor Lorenz reposted the thread. Headlines generated with the posts state that China shows higher AI optimism than the US due to government oversight.

@GracemzshaoListening to @jasminewsun on OddLots, it's so interesting that her reporting on the ground in the US is showing that the anti-AI sentiment is coming from a lack of trust in big tech and government. While my analysis written for @business shows the flip side of the story, where citizens in China, for better or worse, believe the government has a hold on the companies. So, with the regulatory crackdowns/wipeout of private tutoring businesses, it also means the government has control over these private companies, and if they are not fully doing what is deemed good for the public, they can be punished. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-08-14/why-ai-optimism-is-so-much-higher-in-china-than-the-us
