Apple's most powerful on-device AI model requires at least 12GB of memory and M3, M4, or iPhone 17 Pro hardware

The features will not initially launch in the EU.

Many users objected to Apple limiting its most powerful on-device AI model to the iPhone 17 Pro and devices with 12GB RAM, calling it a scam that forces unnecessary upgrades on recent buyers.

@appleclic @macrumorslive It doesnt use RAM much. They use ANE insteal of mlx and it is extremely fast, cheap (no heat).

U can use the ANE api on the device now, and run mistral on it, but not the full spectrum

In any ways, Apple nows exactly what it wants. Fast, cheap local AI without battery drainage.

@9to5mac The three iPhone Air owners will be happy until they realised these on device models will reduce their battery life from 8 minutes to 2 minutes.

@macrumorslive iPhone 17 not supported 💀 what the hell! I guess it’s because it has only 8GB of RAM.

@macrumorslive Everyone needs to go back to school and learn how to read. This is the MOST POWERFUL VERSION OF APPLE INTELLIGENCE

In general, all models are supported.

@iTzShmeedy @macrumorslive Same feeling with my M3 powered Ipad from just 2024. How are these relatively recent devices not supported. they really should have added more than 8gb of memory on their devices if memory is really the problem here!! Sat through this event to get shat on lmao

@macrumorslive Not true! The custom voice is the only thing that needs the newest iPhone models.

@macrumorslive "most powerful"

I wonder if 15 Pro and above will just use a smaller model

@9to5mac To be fair, the 17 Pro can’t even display icon images and white/dark contrast properly at all times, so this isn’t really a surprise.
