Small talk could help AI agents work independently, one user theorizes

Sharing personal details—even sleep patterns—might help agents judge how much effort to put into overnight runs, the user suggests.

    TLDR

One user says they treat AI agents as colleagues, including plenty of non-work talk, and have found a positive tone especially helpful in multi-agent setups. In a reply, another user theorizes that sharing personal preferences could give agents context for more independent decisions, such as pacing overnight work around the user's sleep patterns. They also suggest that longer stretches of autonomous work benefit from a constructive, “yes and” approach, while remaining open to contrary evidence.

@menhguinmy theory with non work talk is that if i talk to them about my random life preferences, they'll know how to make more autonomous decisions. for example, let's say ur leaving some runs overnight. the agents tend to calibrate better abt how much effort to put in if they know my sleep patterns. random stuff like that. wrt being positive, in general i think long horizon autonomy is a lot of getting the agent to say "yes and" and the vibe leans towards being constructive, although im open to contrary evidence.
