Lol Anthropic made such a big deal about their model being “dangerous” because they thought the only result was gonna be hype + something something preventing China from something.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.

The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.

Access to all other Claude models is not affected.

It gives me no pleasure to know that this directive was applied to a company that openly advocated for similar forms of export restrictions. I don't care much about the irony. I care far more about how the action seems unjustified and sets a horrible regulatory precedent.

I oppose this completely.

We should not allow technological progress to be held hostage by capricious and foolish government officials. I hope that the US government loses the power to impose these sorts of controls in the first place.

@MatthewJBar agreed. the precedent's the real disaster here. i don't see technical justification for suspending a model over a narrow jailbreak. if that's the standard, actual safety policy is impossible. what a joke.

But, they 're not going to be able to do it without bribing the current administration and they will not at all like what a liberal regime does to their "privately owned" publicly traded company.
