SpaceX is buying Anysphere, maker of the popular AI code editor Cursor, for $60 billion in stock. The deal, already filed with the SEC, would fold the startup in as a subsidiary and is slated to close this fall once regulators sign off. Cursor hit a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate last year and has been quietly co-training models with xAI that are expected to ship in both Cursor and Grok products.

Months before the announcement the two companies pooled compute and data to train a new model now destined for both platforms. Cursor users should see meaningful upgrades soon, though exact timelines and feature lists remain under wraps until closer to launch.
SpaceX appears to be using the acquisition to accelerate its own frontier-model efforts by grabbing Cursor’s large user base, proprietary code data, and product talent in one move. The all-stock structure also keeps cash on hand for other projects while giving Anysphere shareholders exposure to SpaceX’s valuation.
Many users celebrated SpaceX acquiring Cursor AI as huge progress for AI coding tools while others called the $60B all-stock deal overvalued or attacked Elon personally.

AI will achieve Stockfish-level coding and generalized computer use
SpaceX has exercised the option to acquire @cursor_ai in an all-stock transaction with the goal of building the world’s most useful AI models.
For the past few months, SpaceXAI has been jointly training a model with Cursor, which will be released in Cursor and Grok Build soon.
We look forward to working closely with the Cursor team to advance our frontier AI capabilities
Lots to do together. Excited to be joining forces with @SpaceX to build useful AI.

My first real investment exit!!! 🎉
Congrats @cursor_ai and everyone!!!
BREAKING: SpaceX is acquiring Cursor in a $60 billion all-stock deal.
• Cursor is being valued at $60 billion • Cursor will become a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary • Cursor shareholders will receive SpaceX Class A shares • The exchange ratio will be based on SpaceX’s 7-day average share price before closing • Subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions • Expected to close in Q3 2026
Cursor is one of the world’s leading AI coding platforms and one of the fastest-growing software companies. This marks one of the largest AI acquisitions ever and significantly expands SpaceX’s footprint in AI.
What a brilliant $60B exit for Cursor to SpaceX today!
$4B in run rate growing 7x YoY.
The 4 25yo MIT founders will make ~$2.7B in a span 4yrs and first 50 hires ~$20-500M each.
A testament to why you should actually join early stage startups and of huge outcomes building apps on top of AI models.
$60Billion.
This is the first, but not the last, big exit at the application layer of AI.
As product value accrues and accelerates upwards, the focus over the next few years will be firmly on the “control plane”:
What gives organizations who want to go all in on AI the governance, control, auditability and business continuity across models and across time that they will need to firmly make the leap.
This is the next big phase of AI value creation that the SpaceX/Cursor merger is highlighting.

crazy idea: what if X, Cursor, were the same thing?
We're excited to join forces with @SpaceX to advance the frontier of useful AI. Expect significant improvements to Cursor soon.
Wow. Spacex buys Cursor for $60B
A lot of people thought this company was dead a few *months* ago
Great outcome for all, including me in a very small way… Thus concludes my bet with @rabois
(He bet me $100k that no company founded in SF between 2020-2023 would exit >$10B)
Excited to train some very strong models!

BREAKING: SpaceX has agreed to acquire Cursor, the world's fastest growing software startup, for $60 billion in an all stock deal.
Cursor has over 1 million paying customers, more than $2 billion in annualized revenue, and is projected to hit $6 billion by end of 2026.
At $60 billion, this is the largest software acquisition in history, paying 20 to 30 times Cursor's current revenue.
The deal is subject to regulatory approval and expected to close in Q3 2026.
SpaceX now owns the rockets, the satellites, the AI models, the chips, and is about to own the tool every developer on earth uses to write code.
BOOM!
“SpaceX Agrees to Buy AI Coding Agent Cursor for $60 Billion”
A massive directional change that will ultimately make Claude/Mythos irrelevant.
Anthropic is genuinely just multiple months ahead of everyone
since learning about OpenAI's scaling skill issue, I no longer expect them to be ahead by end-of-year by ~1-2 months
best case for them is catching up to Anthropic or staying at their roughly 2 month lag
SpaceX acquired Cursor
I expect SpaceX AI to be between Google and OpenAI by end of year
Composer 2.0 was a very strong model for only 1T params, but Elon isn't stopping at 1T models

SpaceXAI and @cursor_ai are now working closely together to create the world’s best coding and knowledge work AI.
The combination of Cursor’s leading product and distribution to expert software engineers with SpaceX’s million H100 equivalent Colossus training supercomputer will allow us to build the world’s most useful models.
Cursor has also given SpaceX the right to acquire Cursor later this year for $60 billion or pay $10 billion for our work together.
Official now: SpaceX is officially buying Cursor in an all-stock deal valued at $60B.
The move gives Elon Musk’s AI empire a serious enterprise coding product overnight, and could help xAI close the gap with Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.
However, the truth is that it now seems that xAI is increasingly renting out its data centers and offering them as a hyperscaler rather than actually wanting to participate in the race for the SOTA model.

extremely excited to join this talented team. a lot of things in the works!

SpaceX acquired Cursor for $60B.
A lot of people dismissed Cursor as just a “GPT/Claude wrapper” and a VS Code fork. But it became a company capable of post-training its own models.
That is a big reason Elon wanted it.
I think more companies will post-train custom models to own the weights and bring model costs down.
Congrats to the @cursor_ai team and Elon!
Now the real question: will Cursor continue its no-shoes culture inside SpaceX offices?
Younger, richer and also from rocket money
With this acquisition, I do believe this makes @mntruell the most wealthy 25 year old on the planet.
Truell owned 4.5% stake in the parent company of Cursor, Anysphere, which was part of the SpaceX deal.
Their previous valuation was approximately $29B, but with this deal, Michael's stake becomes worth roughly $2.7 billion dollars, which is good enough for first.
Not too shabby for someone who, just a few years ago, wasn't old enough to buy alcohol.
With the acquisition of @cursor_ai the AI run rate of $SPCX will actually go above that of OpenAI, Google Cloud and AWS (!)
So looks like @SpaceX will spend 2.5% of its market cap to buy @cursor_ai at 15x revenue 👀
