Claude reportedly solves nine-loop problem in a simplified particle-physics model
Anthropic says Claude worked largely unsupervised for days at a total cost of a few thousand dollars. The company says physicist Lance Dixon independently verified the result.

Anthropic says Claude computed a nine-loop scattering amplitude—a formula for predicting particle behavior—in the simplified model known as planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills. “Loops” are layers of corrections that make the calculation more precise but increasingly demanding. According to Anthropic, the previous record was eight loops, set by SLAC’s Lance Dixon and collaborators.
The company says Claude received a single prompt and worked largely unsupervised for days in Claude Science, using methods developed by Dixon and his colleagues. Anthropic puts the total cost at a few thousand dollars and says Dixon independently verified the result.
