Sweeping AI predictions and claims about the brain come under fire

In a series of posts, a critic cites a 2018 prediction that radiologists would be obsolete by 2023 and says Ray Kurzweil argued that hidden Markov models could lead to the singularity. They also recall a joke in which machine-learning researchers added “and that’s how the brain works” to presentations as a jab at Hinton. Their point: technical knowledge does not keep people from making sweeping claims outside their fields.
