OpenHands releases software agent SDK for AI coding
OpenHands Software Agent SDK supplies Python and REST APIs for agents that interact with codebases in local workspaces or Docker and Kubernetes environments. It powers the OpenHands CLI and Cloud services and includes automatic package management triggered by files such as uv.lock and deno.json. Installation examples and documentation are available in the repository at github.com/OpenHands/software-agent-sdk.
Positive users praise alternatives to the Claude Agent SDK such as OpenAI Agent SDK, Pydantic AI and Pi SDK for useful abstractions, strong workflows and no vendor lock-in, while some worry about pricing changes reducing value.

Any good alternatives to the Claude Agent SDK?
I have used OpenAI Agent SDK and ADK a bit in the past but not sure about their state today.

@mariush_ca Wow! Thanks for sharing. Probably heard about it a while back, but didn't know it was based on the AI SDK, which is something I already use.

@omarsar0 I’m using the pi sdk, i like no vendor lock in as well…

@omarsar0 Mastra - not vendor locked TS framework based on AI SDK.

@BBleimschein Interesting. Is it related to pi . dev? What has been your experience with it?

@omarsar0 @cursor_ai It's quite new, released two weeks ago https://cursor.com/blog/typescript-sdk

@jason_haugh I actually have Telegram hooked up to my orchestrator, which is powered by Claude Agent SDK. Great for certain use cases.

@omarsar0 Strands Agents from AWS, really really cool and strong !

@omarsar0 The @cursor_ai Agent SDK?

@omarsar0 My worry with these SDKs is the vendor lock in

@dedene @cursor_ai Thanks for the suggestion. Just saw something on my timeline about this. Need to try it out for sure.

@omarsar0 I code through CC on Telegram. Maybe not what you're looking for, but it is nice to code from anywhere. Works particularly nice if you keep CC on a dedicated server.

@omarsar0 I don't like abstractions really, with coding agents you can make your own plain code agents loops

@omarsar0 I really like pydantic ai they have useful abstractions

@omarsar0 codex app-server

@omarsar0 haven't dug into claude sdk alts lately, what's your main gripe?

@omarsar0 pls do let me know as well...once you get to know about it

@buildooor mostly for an agent orchestration tool and for setting up advanced agentic automations

@omarsar0 for what use case?

@omarsar0 Vercel AI SDK natively supports most llms including local ones. https://ai-sdk.dev/
