The interesting part is where the money is going: 60% of the net proceeds will fund next-generation GLM models and what http://Z.AI calls its 'Fully Self Training' system. http://Z.AI's stated goal is for each generation of GLM to build the environments used to train the next one, forming what the company itself calls a Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) loop. They just raised billions to push on it.

    @S_OhEigeartaighFor context, Anthropic raised $65 billion earlier this year, OpenAI $122 billion. https://z.ai's $5 billion isn't going to have them overtake even if the American companies agree to pace.
    @EMostaque@S_OhEigeartaigh It's easier if you don't need to do large pretrains. I doubt they will do a pretrain above $100m equivalent and a couple hundred million RL
