openai’s approach to competing with cc is interesting but flawed imho.

this is prolly metrics positive in the short term but likely corrosive in the long term.

this ad implicitly concedes claude is the thing people actually want & they’re just the off ramp for the frustrated. that’s simply not a flattering position for the long term.

@signulll this is honestly very poor taste, and I cannot count the number of people that have told me that they feel the same

the Codex team went from appearing humble and product-focused to giving the impression that they are full of themselves

and that is never a good look.

@signulll ah it is addressing a real pain point. I hit limits on Claude way more than Codex. I think are you reading too much into this. the average person seeing this ad is thinking "Hmm ya i do hit my limit. why not give codex a try?"

@signulll they're playing the google playbook. ship fast, break things, figure out monetization later. claude's playing the apple playbook. polish first, then scale. both work but one ages better.
