    TLDR

Bojan Tunguz, founder of TabulAI and former NVIDIA ML engineer, described testing a high-end Windows gaming laptop equipped with a powerful GPU. He expected the machine plus WSL to deliver strong portable performance for ML and data science. Instead the high-end MacBook proved faster in his experience. Tunguz noted he maintains several small Linux boxes yet restricts their use to limited roles. The account comes from his public post and stands as his direct comparison of the two hardware setups.

@tunguzA few years ago I had tested a souped-up Windows gaming laptop, all with a high-end GPU, thinking that WSL in particular would make it a beast of a portable system for ML/DS work, only to discover that the high end MacBook *still* gave me superior performance. I have lots of small Linux boxes, but I only use them for small specific tasks. High end Macs have been my daily drivers for almost all of my work for a few years, even DL related stuff. And I only feel their power and versatility is increasing.
