Jacob Tsimerman to become founding scientific director of Mathematical AI Safety Institute
Tsimerman says he will not join OpenAI as an employee; the company offered the institute $10 million in API credits.

Jacob Tsimerman says he will work full-time as founding scientific director of the independent Mathematical AI Safety Institute (MAISI), while continuing to collaborate with OpenAI. He says OpenAI offered MAISI $10 million in API credits and access to its latest models for research, and will participate in a multi-lab AI safety workshop MAISI is organizing for 2027. The institute is also discussing collaboration with other labs and AI safety groups, he says.
