Yeah I’ve been doing the exact same thing using gpt + Gemini for design help. Theres no contest. Gemini regularly puts furniture in front of doorways, massively mis represents the floor plan etc. GPT is miles better (tho still not perfect, and weirdly buggy in that it will occasionally just fail entirely). On net, having hired an interior designer before, I would say having GPT was better than having a designer.
