10 gigawatts is roughly the average power demand of NYC (~5.5 GW), LA (~3 GW), and SF (~1 GW) combined

Many users criticized OpenAI's planned 10-gigawatt Ohio data center as wasteful and senseless due to its enormous electricity demands and questionable investment value, while a few noted potential benefits for power reliability.

@_KarenHao So the plan is to build digital employees that consume three major cities worth of electricity. Got it.

@_KarenHao it'll never get built, this is just a short term money grab

@_KarenHao Sounds like a good thing for long term power reliability, Loudoun County where many datacenters sit sees residents pay below average power costs

@_KarenHao If you look at it from a research or even a "we need AI in everything" perspective, this investment makes no sense.

Instead of attempting to optimise energy usage by researching novel approaches, all of the investment seems to go into subsidising US chip makers. So fucking dumb

@_KarenHao It is interesting how the CO2 is going to cause global warming crowd is silent when these proposals for Gigawatt consumption projects come up for AI. Where are the carbon offsets? The solar farms, the giant windmills to provide 24/7 data functionality power?

@_KarenHao This is a fake deal designed for them to argue for a bailout when they soon need one. Goal at this point is to try and implicate as much harm as possible to argue for a bailout.

10 gigawatts is an astonishing number. It shows how quickly AI is moving from software to massive physical infrastructure. When so much power is concentrated in a few hands, the safeguards and boundaries matter more than ever. We're risking to trade one form of dependency for another.

@MichaelsTrading @_KarenHao And most of the people behind all this are tied to the Epstein list lol. Why are we allowing this

@_KarenHao @_KarenHao, what are they really doing with these data centers? Why are they so massive? Are they data processing centers or surveillance centers?
