Elixir “Attune” strings first impression
I thought I’d give the new Elixir “Attune” strings a try. They’re low tension strings, and I’m using the 12-53 “light” version.
My current set was the Santa Cruz Parabolic Light strings. I do quite like them on my Santa Cruz OM Grand guitar (Adirondack top, Indian rosewood back and sides). They have a nice wide dynamic presence - bright and clear on the G B and E strings, and provide clear and articulate low end with no muddiness. So, that’s what I’m comparing them against.
The Elixir Attune strings are marketed as “bright” so that’s what I was expecting. But, they are actually not as bright on my Santa Cruz OMG as I expected. In my opinion the older Elixir 80/20 bronze Nanoweb strings sound brighter, at least on my OM Grand. The Santa Cruz Parabolic Lights are also a bit brighter to my ear, as well. If you give them a try, let me know what YOU hear from them.
I’m going to try them on my Yairi FYM60HD next, which is a naturally brighter guitar already, so I’ll let you know how the Attune strings sound on an Adi top with old growth mahogany back and sides. It’ll be a few weeks before I do that, as I’ve recently strung it with Santa Cruz Parabolic lights.
So, what strings have YOU tried lately? Anything you really liked? Let us know!
