On January 13, 2026, Estee Lauder Cosmetics Ltd. was fined $750,000 by the Ontario Court of Justice for violating the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999. The violations included failing to inform the government about a significant new activity and not complying with a compliance order. The company was also required to notify its shareholders and the fine will be directed to the Government of Canada’s Environmental Damages Fund. The violations were related to the sale of eyeliner products containing Perfluorononyl Dimethicone, a per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS), without proper notification or compliance with the Act.

Starting January 7, 2026, International Experience Canada (IEC) Working Holiday and Young Professionals are no longer eligible for Alberta Health Care coverage.
