Is it a misnomer to call this a community?

We live these spaces a lot and I find it irksome when community gets misapplied to big, algo-driven social media spaces. This isn't that, yet, but I worry a bit that calling these subgroups communities is a bit misleading. Perhaps I'm just being overly sensitive about terminology
