Xbox360 Kernel Downgrade 'Timing Attack' PIC Interface Schematics/Details
xbox-scene.com — Robinsod released the open-source schematics, sources and details to make your own PIC interface needed to perform the 'Timing Attack' that will allow you to boot the 1888 'base kernel' on your Xbox 360 even if you have burned fuses (and don't know your CPU Key) ... once booted to that kernel you will be able to update to an exploitable kernel.

- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6the 360 has been out for almost 2 years. I wouldn't call it "easy" to hack.

- stolenisotope1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Good on you, Xbox-Scene.com and xboxhacker.com! Keep up the good work. I'm currently waiting for the 1st commercial homebrew solution for the Xbox 360, which I will snap up quickly. Imagine a tri-core Computer, with an 8800gts for a mere $400 Australian dollars (BYO HDD, modchip and VGA cables though). Absolutely terrific, and just the reason I need to buy a 2nd Xbox 360.
- mattyice11, on 10/10/2007, -7/+98800gts? I wish.
- chazuk, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6mattyice11 is right.... How the ***** does ATi's RSX = nVidia 8800gts?
- MouseCircus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12RSX is the name of the PS3 GPU. Xenos is the name of the 360 GPU.
Despite your lack of facts, though, you're still correct. It's no 8800.- TonyCubed, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7ATi's Xenos > 8800GTS
- knightofeffect, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Simply to continue the reply chain... TonyCubed it correct.
- xNaquada, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1XENOS is a modified x1800xt with ondie ram.
How anyone is calling it a 8800gts seriously has no ***** clue what they are talking about. Google and Wiki are your friends that help prevent you looking like a idiot.

- Talus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Waiting for XBMC360 :)
- CHiLL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Same here. Hopefully it'll be able to handle HD content.
The only reason I still use my original Xbox is XBMC.- BLKMGK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You might have better luck with LinuXBMC. They are apparently moving along pretty good on that port and when done it will be an easy to install program like XBMC was and tailored for specific hardware - TBD.
Right now I have a "spare" 360 with the old firmware too. However I have concerns about reliability of the hardware and so far the attempts to get code running on the box have been fairly convoluted. Perhaps if a mod chip is done ala the XBOX1 this will change, I hope so, but I'm not holding my breath just yet as that seems really far away :-( LinuXBMC seems much closer to reality or perhaps a hacked aTV (got one of those too). It's pretty sad we';ve got to hack hardware to come even close to what we want these days...

- SyberMile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6sounds like a mod chip is in the works!!!
- Izacus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11That took a long time. I guess guys at Microsoft really did their homework after the Xbox 1 protection fiasco.
- DarkDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Whats the patchability of this attack? Need I be wary of Microsoft rolling out an update that will prevent this from working?
- mattyice11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It was already patched awhile ago. You'll have to downgrade in order to run this, which means no online play since you need all new updates to get on.
- tacroy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Awesome. I'm totally fine with being able to mess with your box, you did buy it after all. But I am totally against those mod'd boxes being able to play online. H2 got VERY frustrating with all the modders and cheaters.

- AuburnTigers, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I have no idea what this means...but if it means easier modded 360's, then sweet!
- maxz2040, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6i had no idea kernels were even invented in the 1880's?....*thinks for a moment*
OHHHH "BASE kernel"
......nup, still no idea, its good news i hope! - RRRobotHouse, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have a degree in computer engineering and the article description confuses me.
- g00ee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Yeah, a lot of people have degrees in computer engineering. Very few actually know how to make a computer do much more than say "Hello world!"
- WhereAmI, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am working on a degree in Computer Engineering. I can make a little LCD screen say whatever I want with assembly.

- VVCephei, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I wonder if there will be a way to Softmod the 360.
