- eliot2000, on 03/24/2009, -5/+106Homophobia is totally gay.
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -7/+107He's asking less than what he even makes in a year? He must be new to this whole lawsuit thing, because he's doing it completely wrong. Okay first of all, you're not supposed to have a legitimate complaint. It's supposed to be something completely ridiculous, like "I'm upset because I ordered hot coffee and it turned out that the coffee was hot and I burned myself and they should have warned me that when I ordered something they were going to give me what I ordered." Next, you're not supposed to ask for a reasonable figure. $20 million is the bare minimum, or else they're just not going to take you seriously. The more disproportionate the punishment is to the crime, the better.
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -3/+97If this were the Redmond campus, I would have a hard time believing the story. Having been a perma temp for almost 3 years, there are so many cultures on the Redmond campus that you really cant get away with taunts like that without being called into a meeting with HR.
I was working with Japanese, Norwegian, Pakastani, Israeli, Christian, Ex-Marines, Jews, African Americans, Gays, Athiests. Really a diverse group of co-workers. Since any one group can potentially say something that the other would deem offensive, its best to keep your mouth shut when it comes to matters of politics and religion. - charlie6969, on 03/25/2009, -0/+79Dugg for not asking for millions in damages.
- Cancerkitty, on 03/24/2009, -4/+77That's a mighty fine human resources department right there.
- iDiggYa, on 03/24/2009, -2/+69You're also missing the Trademark symbol following Live.
- SpectralSounds, on 03/24/2009, -2/+66You put a space after typo and between your unnecessary comma.
- nickert0n, on 03/24/2009, -5/+67Fine, your missing a period /\
- V3n0M, on 03/24/2009, -2/+64And capitalize the "I" in "if".
- RevChris2, on 03/24/2009, -1/+60if only someone would point out my typo , then my day on digg would be complete
- RevChris2, on 03/24/2009, -1/+55I see all is well in digg then :)
- CrazySpaniard, on 03/25/2009, -0/+51You're also missing the trademark symbol after digg™
- mhuggins, on 03/25/2009, -0/+39I like how the first response in this chain included a misspelling of "you're" while attempting to correct your grammar.
- dasdef, on 03/25/2009, -0/+39You all get diggs! Except you, Charlie. You get buried.
- CrazySpaniard, on 03/25/2009, -1/+38not that there's anything wrong with that
- elig, on 03/25/2009, -0/+35I have never once seen homophobic behavior on the Redmond campus and my whole team knows I'm gay. We have gay and even transgendered execs. Shoot, they even brought in Dan Savage to speak for National Coming Out Day.
Can't think of a more gay-supportive company that I've ever worked at. - dbossnirvana, on 03/25/2009, -13/+4745k for "hurt feelings"? I'm starting to feel gay all of a sudden.
- LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -4/+33Homophobia is *****. He has the right not to work in a hostile environment. I hope he wins.
- bkripper, on 03/25/2009, -0/+29Don't forget...
The woman is in a non-moving vehicle.
The coffee is known to be 20 degrees hotter than competitors.
More than 700 people have filed complaints stating they were burned by the served coffee.
The woman intially states she only wants her medical bills paid.
McD's says get lost.
Woman hires an attorney cause 3rd degree crotch burns flippin hurt and are very discomforting. Plus they generate some hella large medical bills.
To counter any bad press create a smear compaign claiming the litigant is an opportunistic, greedy, reckless driver.
Count the number of suckers who fall for it. - inactive, on 03/25/2009, -0/+28I'll make fun of you if you split the money with me. :)
- ShoujoKakumei, on 03/25/2009, -0/+24"Mr Durrant said he complained to human resources chiefs and agreed not to raise a formal grievance to avoid creating an 'uneasy atmosphere'."
Big mistake. Never listen to your HR people when they want to cover ***** up. If you're being harassed, the atmosphere is already uneasy. - Velnich, on 03/25/2009, -1/+24Sounds to me like he's being very reasonable and it's trying to avoid turning this into a another frivolous lawsuit.
- doctordbx, on 03/25/2009, -0/+21Dude, you don't need to do 5 unless you really want to.
- durnit, on 03/25/2009, -3/+24thought it said "fat boy" which would've been funnier
- gixxer600, on 03/25/2009, -2/+231. pretend to be gay
2. have hurt feelings
3.???
4. Profits
5. have gay sex - gridbread, on 03/25/2009, -6/+27Great job Microsoft, really distancing yourself from the *****-fratboy image associated with the 360 crowd.
- Relikh, on 03/25/2009, -0/+20You're the kind of person that is ok with black people but hates ***** and still think you're not racist.
- Hardataq, on 03/25/2009, -0/+18Please explain
- agentsrecord, on 03/24/2009, -3/+20Yeah, I know. I can see it now. Bill Gates opens his wallet and says, "45 grand? Do you accept cash?"
- Gndoab, on 03/25/2009, -1/+18you mean you have no problem with gay people so long as they hide the fact that they are gay when they are around you?
- Galaxylander, on 03/25/2009, -0/+17Apple and Microsoft are both very, very respectable companies when it comes to homophobia and tolerance. Apple even donated to the Prop 8 opposition.
- Wisgary, on 03/25/2009, -0/+17Pull this stunt at the Redmond campus, HR is gonna have your ass on the street in no time.
- ajwinder, on 03/25/2009, -1/+15because it constitutes workplace harassment. We wouldn't even be having this discussion if he were black and had racial slurs thrown at him.
- adeelarshad82, on 03/24/2009, -2/+16suing for only 45,000 Pounds!!! he could probably walk away with much more, that's a major lawsuit right there. rip them a new one. Thats just wrong.
- BoxAdorable, on 03/25/2009, -0/+13Actually, behavior like in that office is setting back gay rights.
- d3dm, on 03/25/2009, -0/+13Did he go by the name, "Fancy"?
- ihatediggcom, on 03/25/2009, -0/+12as crazy as that is, you are actually 100% correct
- Adgeman, on 03/25/2009, -0/+12Why should he have to quit? His HR team should be doing a better job to ensure his place of work doesn't turn into Live. The article says he's worked there for at least 11 years so he's clearly doing a good job.
- anixmander, on 03/25/2009, -0/+12Yeah, if we had picked on any of the gay people working at the M-Soft studio I was in, we'd have gotten our asses booted.
And the contract house I was working for would have dumped us from their roster. - fluidfoundation, on 03/24/2009, -2/+13That was his gamertag.
- weatherlsp, on 03/25/2009, -0/+11Coworkers talk about their personal lives with each other. Straight people talk about their girlfriends/wifes, gay people should feel free to talk about the boyfriends/husbands if they want. It's not "wearing it on your sleeve" it's being a normal person.
For the record I'm a gay man in the game industry and am out to my co-workers.. I've never received anything but support (especially during prop 8). - sageerrant, on 03/25/2009, -0/+10NaziHatinChimp, are you a hatin' nazi chimp, or a chimp that's hatin' nazis?
- BoxAdorable, on 03/25/2009, -0/+10So it's ok if he's gay as long as he doesn't talk about it or indicate it in any way?
- cha0sfarmer, on 03/25/2009, -1/+11It's not a matter of just being offended or having "hurt feelings." It would be the same sort of suit if people had been shooting the N word in reference to an employee around office e-mails. It's about the freedom to work in an environment without being ridiculed and disrespected.
And trust me, this suit will get settled 9 times out of 10. Good counsel for MS will say, "Just pay this guy off and don't let it become a story any more than it is now." - StEligius, on 03/25/2009, -2/+12HR people are just school guidance councilors with a slightly better job. Most worthless people on the planet. The Director of The IT department was ex head of HR. More worried with appearances than getting ***** done. They could have got rid of him and kept the 3 of us that were bought out/laid off who actually do work.
- LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -0/+9...what?
- LongShlong, on 03/25/2009, -0/+9Could you explain the metaphorical version?
... Just for fun? - Spandia, on 03/25/2009, -1/+10It's British pounds or 66, 253.5 U.S. dollars. (But still not a significant amount)
- Adgeman, on 03/25/2009, -1/+10Maybe there was an office party where he was entitled to bring a partner? Maybe he took his partner who happened to be a guy. He shouldn't have to keep his partner at home because of the attitudes of other people. I can understand this crap in sports but not in game dev; we're an insular but often intelligent group.
