- fsufanizzle, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5They didn't steal anything, it's so completely obvious you shouldn't include your Hard Drive. The support people tell you as does the "Xbox 360 Packaging Instructions" paper included http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/2774979017_a02 ...
Just follow directions next time, good luck getting it back. - fsufanizzle, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3I'm sorry if I came off as being mean or anything like that....I wasn't trying to be. I don't really see how any of us can help you then, I guess you are going to have to wage a battle with Support. I really hope you work it out and get your problem resolved though.
- fsufanizzle, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2You are going to have to log in at Xbox.com, and go into the forums. Then click this link to send him a PM(Private Message). Good luck.

Mention that you are the guy from DIGG, he should know who you are. - duggtodeath, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2C'mon Digg Amry, let's bombard Microsoft so that their operating systems blue screen...oh wait... they do that already...
- fsufanizzle, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2I contacted an Xbox Support Rep at xbox.com for you, the response:
"The best I can offer for the customer is to have him contact me with his reference number, so I can take a look at it and verify all pertinent steps were taken. However, if the agents followed all steps and procedures and so doing verified his hard drive was not received with the console for repair, then there is not much anyone at Xbox Support can do. Sorry.
Our email shipping option and the over the phone scripting agents use when setting up the repair should provide similar instructions about not packing in any accessories or peripherals like the power supply or controller, unless instructed to by a support agent.
So when something unfortunate like this happens, we have a process to investigate and verify the claim. His best option is to continue to work with the Xbox Support agents handling his case."
So if you'd like to contact him I can tell you how. - pbooker, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Thanks for the help! :) I'm afraid 10 diggs (currently) might be where this fizzles out. Still no help from xbox support. They claim that they didn't get the hard drive, there's no possibility of one of their folks losing/stealing/whatever the hard drive and that if anything, I didn't realize that I didn't put the hard drive in the box and it's probably somewhere in my house.
I can tell you with 100% certainty that it's not in my house! :) Believe me, I've looked even though I know that I put it in the box with my xbox. The xbox went from the TV area to the kitchen table, into the box and out to UPS.
Grrr... it's frustrating to feel so helpless against this giant machine. Obviously I could just suck it up and pay $160 for a stupid hard drive if I really wanted to play a game - but it's the principle of this whole thing. - pbooker, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2If you read the other comments you'll know that I didn't get any instructions. I was told to send in the Xbox via UPS in my own box - nothing about any instructions getting sent to me.
On my second phone call to xbox support they said that there wasn't a hard drive sent in to them, regardless of the instructions.
But I did send the hard drive with the xbox. - pbooker, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2I'm hoping that someone else out there who did this might have some tips for getting it back - or that maybe Major Nelson will notice? :) I just figured it's worth a shot.
But I'll keep calling at any rate. - pbooker, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2@fsufanizzle - Looking at your image, I can understand that you'd have to think I'm an idiot for not knowing to not send my hard drive in. And if I'd gotten that sheet, I would've followed instructions dutifully and I'd be happily playing my xbox now.
But good to know that that sheet exists - that's something else I have in my arsenal for my next phone call back to Xbox support. - pbooker, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1As I said i a previous comment - they didn't send me a box. The lady on the phone told me to send it via UPS and to package it up myself.
- haremchief, on 09/11/2008, -2/+3Try not to assume that the packaging instructions came with his system before stating that it should have been obvious for him. Sometimes it's ok to ask first--something like 'Didn't the Xbox 360 Packaging Instructions paper (on this link) come with your system?' might have been more appropriate.
We don't know how he found out that he wasn't supposed to send in the system w/ HD attached--this could be another question to be addressed.
Edit: Also, there are so many plug and play things made these days how many of us really bother looking at 'instructions' unless we are having problems setting up? - fsufanizzle, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Let me know how it goes....
- pbooker, on 09/18/2008, -0/+1Guess what showed up today out of nowhere. A Purolator delivery with a 120GB hard drive. How bizarre. Glad to know I wasn't crazy in pursuing this but it would've been nice if someone, somewhere at xbox support had noted that they got my hard drive and sent it back on my file to save me all the grief and frustration. I was just about to break down and go buy one.
- pbooker, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Sure - it's worth a shot. Send me an email at chris.enns at gmail dot com.
Thanks for your help.
It's frustrating because on the last call I made the support agent said that they didn't receive the hard drive (according to whoever they checked with) so even if they believe me that I wasn't properly told (or couldn't understand) that I shouldn't send the hard drive in - they'll still claim they didn't get the hard drive.
But I know I sent it with the Xbox. I wish I'd taken pictures or something but I know it went. I've turned my house upside-down just to make sure I'm not crazy - but I specifically remember sending it.
I'll have to check with UPS to see if I have any recourse with them, but I'm guessing that since Xbox Support received the package/xbox and didn't say anything about damaged carton/tampered box I won't get anywhere with them. UPS will just say, talk to Microsoft, we delivered the package in one piece. - duggtodeath, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Sucks man. I can imagine the labyrinth bureaucracy PREVENTING them from assisting you even if they really wanted to. Good luck!
- pbooker, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1Thanks - I'll send him a message and hope for the best!
- pbooker, on 09/11/2008, -2/+2Thanks to anyone who Diggs. I'm not sure what will come of it but at least it helps to know others are supporting me here. Just a stay-at-home dad wanting to play the odd game while our kid sleeps! :)
- pbooker, on 09/11/2008, -2/+2I didn't have any sheet with instructions - I was told to package it up in a box and send it back via a UPS number the support person gave me. Xbox support obviously got my 360 no problem. The real issue isn't whether I knew I should have sent it or not - Xbox Support told me that there wasn't a hard drive included with my 360 when they received it from me and now they won't help me.
Believe me, if the support person had said not to send the HD, I wouldn't have. - michaelje0, on 09/11/2008, -2/+2They explicitly explain this on the instructions they send. There isn't much to read on these instructions, it's impossible to miss.
- kinseyincanada, on 09/12/2008, -1/+1the instructions come wiht the box the send you.
