- coldeh, on 06/01/2009, -4/+143Microsoft seem to be on a run lately
- Perfectsound, on 06/01/2009, -3/+105Don't forget. Last.fm integration.
- shanehonda, on 06/01/2009, -17/+116This is all EXACTLY what I want to see out of Microsoft and the 360. Never felt better about my choice over PS3.
- jordn, on 06/01/2009, -3/+73FTA:
This implementation is as close to a "disc in the drive" experience as possible over the Internet. At a high-level, here is how it works:
* Video startup is nearly instantaneous because of the back-end proprietary Microsoft technology developed by Zune that seamlessly transitions between many different bitrates and resolutions of video.
* Video playback will start at a low bitrate for fast download time and then ramp up to a higher bitrate and quality, up to 1080p with 5.1 audio.
* Features such as smooth fast forward and rewind that users have only seen before with local physical media. - JasonCox, on 06/01/2009, -0/+61All that's missing is Hulu...
- SeanFranchise, on 06/01/2009, -0/+60Give me Hulu and ESPN 360 and my cable will be kaput.
- TheMachine1, on 06/01/2009, -6/+534 Xbox stories on front page at the same time?
- geodebug, on 06/01/2009, -0/+40It's great that MS keeps adding value to the xbox 360 each year without forcing you to upgrade or buy a new box.
Hopefully, they've started to solve the reliability problems that plagued the system for awhile.
Sony, you have anything up your sleeve this year? - Memnochxx, on 06/01/2009, -0/+39Why not? The news was just released all at once (practically).
- AshamedAmerican, on 06/01/2009, -5/+38Microsoft sure seems to have come prepared for E3, I just hope they aren't blowing their entire load of surprises a little prematurely.
Stamina MS, stamina. - billmill, on 06/01/2009, -6/+34"Microsoft claims instant-on 1080p HD video service with no downloads and no delays."
how is that possible? - slyzxx, on 06/01/2009, -0/+27Rock On. I love E3 and all these amazing things coming out.
- Grazzit, on 06/01/2009, -4/+31Now, a web browser would be nice....
- litolist, on 06/01/2009, -1/+24When and why would you disconnect your 360 or PS3 from the internet?
- Dustin00, on 06/01/2009, -0/+21E3 announcements.
Coming later this week: Nintendo Day and Sony Day. - LoneWolf01, on 06/02/2009, -0/+20That's actually really impressive technology, and I'm quite looking forward to it. Although hopefully they'll have smaller resolutions for slower connections/standard TVs.
- quamb, on 06/01/2009, -2/+20Microsofts E3 conference was A+++. If anything I'm a nintendo fan, and kind of despise the idea of the xthboxth...
but seriously... this was Microsoft at their $$$ dropping best. Not only were they showing off motion control, Facebook/Twitter/Netflix integration, sweet trailers etc... but Spielberg, the Beatles (last remaining members) and Kojima were out on stage. I mean, these are the god's of their respective fields.
Sony and Nintendo have NO chance of topping this. - inactive, on 06/02/2009, -0/+15Did you even read the article?
- roxgod666, on 06/01/2009, -0/+14You're a web browser? Say hi to Firefox for me.
- ControlcChris, on 06/01/2009, -7/+20good thing i bought a 360!
- IllBeBack, on 06/01/2009, -2/+14Wow, that really sucks. I hope your luck changes.
I feel very fortunate that I've had my XBox 360 Elite (Falcon) since Dec 2007 and have had nothing but goodness. Not a single problem.
I do wish that I didn't need to have a Gold membership for Netflix streaming on it, but that's ok because I have an HD TiVo and a Roku that does that part just fine. - dagamer34, on 06/01/2009, -1/+12It requires an 8Mbit/sec connection, which means at least they aren't wildly claiming something is HD purely on pixel counts (or are they?) Still, true 1080p quality requires around 15-20 Mbit/sec if you want it to really compete with Blu-ray, and we are nowhere near able to support that because of our bandwidth infrastructure just being behind the times.
- pixelate, on 06/02/2009, -1/+12fixed:
You can have a 1920x1080 array of pixels but if *the video* has less detail you're talking about a smaller file.
Individual pixels only describe one dot, that's not where you're losing quality. If less bandwidth is being used to encode the movie, then you end up with a crappier decoded result. Washed out colors, blocky textures, lots of artifacting during motion. - roxgod666, on 06/01/2009, -4/+15I really doubt they will be able to top that, but Sony NEEDS to match that or else they are ***** even more than they are now.
- JCEEZ, on 06/02/2009, -0/+11the ocho?
- SystemJinx, on 06/02/2009, -0/+11You don't HAVE to use these features. The XBox and PS3 are still primarily gaming machines. These updates just enhance their capabilities.
- damack, on 06/01/2009, -4/+15HD is just resolution but the bitrate is the detail in the image.
You can have a 1920x1080 array of pixels but if each pixel has less detail your talking about a smaller file.
It's quite impressive doing 1080P over a 8 megabit connection considering blu-ray has a bitrate of between 30 and 40 megabit so it'll be interesting to see what the quality is like. - CrazySpaniard, on 06/02/2009, -0/+10(except me of course who's stuck with 50/50 Mbit/s)
you lucky son of a bitch - TylerDuhrdan, on 06/01/2009, -15/+25And what would I get if I bought a PS3 today?
This is just one of the many reasons why I went with a 360 instead of the Sony Blu-ray player that also does games I think. - reiggin, on 06/02/2009, -2/+12Becaaaause an Xbox 360 starts at $200?
- gozroth, on 06/01/2009, -0/+10PlayOn.

- ICDWILL117, on 06/01/2009, -2/+11You missed it.
- spookyttws, on 06/01/2009, -2/+11It all looks great, and the end of physical media seems ever closer. Microsoft hs partnered with a lot of great companies, but I'd still love them to hook up with Gamefly and allow me to stream my 'Q' over the net. If that ever happens it will be the end for a lot of older technology.
- schmons, on 06/01/2009, -0/+9***** comcast for not giving us espn 360 :(
- Rioracer916, on 06/02/2009, -0/+9Miyamoto doing back flips while playing Wii Music 2?
- N01SE, on 06/01/2009, -3/+12Video streaming and netflix access, wait..... why don't you just get a gaming PC then? Desktops have been able to do this stuff for a while now.
- FFXIfrohike, on 06/02/2009, -0/+9And Twitter and Facebook.
- DeepFreezed, on 06/02/2009, -0/+9blah blah blah.....
pay $40 and get a 10mbit connection - Azriel7, on 06/02/2009, -1/+10There is only one itsy bitsy problem with this, data caps. This will be useless to anybody who uses time ***** warner or any other ISP provider that throttles or has caps on the data.
- Radan, on 06/02/2009, -0/+8However, since they finally got their thumb out and released it to the rest of the world, we are filled with glee right now. Most people have 24/2 Mbit/s connections here, except in the larger cities where most have access to 100/100 Mbit/s connections (except me of course who's stuck with 50/50 Mbit/s).
Can you even imagine that this is the first real video service to reach Scandinavia? Until this day, the ONLY way for us to get downloadable movies was from torrents and similar. - jaygray, on 06/01/2009, -3/+11I bought a PS3 about a year ago and I have to say with what's expected of Sony at E3, I'm really toying with the idea of switching to a 360. Slim PS3s and another new PSP offers nothing to people who already own the system. Give me some firmware/PSN improvements please Sony!
- pktgumby, on 06/02/2009, -1/+9What will they come up with next....free multiplayer?
- dagamer34, on 06/01/2009, -3/+11Thing is, the Internet could "effectively" disconnect itself from you, like when your ISP decides to prioritize your bandwidth lower such that streaming video gets shafted in QoS algorithms. Cable companies would rather you get media content from THEM, rather than just use them as a fat pipe for data (which they are).
- shibbyo, on 06/01/2009, -0/+8Learn to type.
- TheBigBad, on 06/02/2009, -0/+8Considering 95% of people don't know what Matroska is, no big deal.
- roxgod666, on 06/01/2009, -5/+13I always hear about the people who had 4-6 red rings of death in just a couple of months. I had one, and everyone i know either had none or a maximum of 1. I think the select group of people who get 4+ are doing something odd to their system, my friend falls asleep while playing and he only got it once. Anyway, the problem was fixed.
- CrazySpaniard, on 06/02/2009, -1/+9not every ISP is available everywhere you know
- pcpimpster, on 06/01/2009, -12/+19Microsoft is killing the blue ray star. This is what they're best at. Killing over hyped tech.
- jordn, on 06/01/2009, -8/+15oh man i hope i didn't get owned, i bought my PS3 two months ago! :(
i hope sony can bring something similar to the table, for competitions' sake! -
