- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33Well, at least they wont lag me out of my games, because you know, they are the LAN down under...
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -6/+30buying a core 360 is like buying half a console...
- MistaWiggs, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26Too bad a 360 is pointless without a harddrive.
- arunforce, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16I laugh at the idiots that who constantly post their fanboy *****. =)
They are the main losers of the console war.
You got to diversify your funds. ;) - Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14ZING!
- chris4404, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Could it be a kinda of Trojan Horse move? The unknowing parent buys a cheap 360 then the knowing child buys the hard drive or talks the parent into buying it too?
- DragonQuester, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Wii60 FTW!
even though I have to agree with MistaWiggs and nublet - xcheats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Actually not really. You need cars to function, you don't need a hard drive in a 360 at all. Its more like buying a car without GPS navigation, it just makes things a heck of a lot easier.
- MrFisty, on 10/10/2007, -8/+14Man it annoys me when you see "360 now as cheap as a Wii" then realise they're talking about the Core. It's like buying a car without wheels.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8They're sending you all the refurbs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+15It's hard to compare what the Wii has to offer next to the 360, even the core one at that price. The Wii is more like a toy, not a game console.
- phavn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Wow! Wii's are really expensive in Australia
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3There's still a monolithic base of PS2 owners that haven't bought into the 7th gen consoles yet. I still firmly believe that the market is more than big enough to support the 360 and the PS3 at the same time.
The Wii doesn't really count as it seems to be falling into a different market. My manager has a Wii and he's about as tech savvy as a patato but openly says "the graphics aren't that great, but it's fun", so I can't see the Wii aging that well compared to the kind of bling you'll see on screens and demo units of the 360 and PS3 in game stores several years from now. - wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5A Xbox 360 Core plays every single Xbox 360 game. If you are super sensitive to price, it gets you into true 7th Generation gaming at the price you can afford.
- Morphine7399, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They aren't phasing out *****, you're retarded to think that. How do you think Microsoft makes money in their gaming division if they lose money on every console sold. the answer is accessories, when someone buys a core they naturally have to buy more of their over priced accessories. Why would they cut out their biggest cash cow? and the PS3 price cut didn't come until months after the PS3 price cut. if what you are saying is correct why would they drop the price on the premium too? You're ideas are more outrageous than the movie "Billy and The Clonasuars".
- lead2thehead, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6My 360 is the most expensive space heater I've ever purchased.
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4And for the price of two memory cards you could have (almost) bought a harddrive. Premium of course also has headset and wireless controller in addition. If the XBox360 could save to cheap SD Cards or allow custom HDs the Core would have a point, but currently it feels like a rip-off. The money you save today, you are going to pay twice in a few month for the additional stuff.
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If only the PS3 price would follow suit. The AUD is doing well against the USD, but we're still paying around $850 USD for the PS3 here.
- xcheats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And you mean to tell me the special controllers for the Wii and the Nunchuck and all the accessories you need to fully enjoy the innovation of the Wii aren't expensive?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4"supporter12"? Do you work for Microsoft or something?
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2region lock.(game & DVD)
wired vs wireless controllers
etc.
It's a bad idea. - estvir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can play videogames, right, and it's a videogame console.. right again?
Pointless? No, but limited, yes. And not everyone can afford the HDD. - skywake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=Australia&cons2=PS3®2=Australia&cons3=X360®3=Australia&weekly=1
- Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Everything is really expensive in Australia, the PS3 is $999 AUD and the AUD buys $0.85 USD, do the math, that's about $850 USD for a PS3!
- Dracker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Better Title: Wii is Overpriced in Australia
- Ranneko, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3This means that I can get a Core, and then order a 120GB hard drive from the US, for less than the price of a pro system.
I'd just get a whole 360 from the US because it would be cheaper, but the failure rate is too high, and I'd run into issues with the warranty. Not so with an AU one, but I would be paying a fair bit more for games.
Tempted though, very tempted.
Other than the cost (and number) of games, can anyone point out to me flaws in this plan? - R3Dirkulous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1last time i checked this "half console" was the fastest selling console ever (the wii if you didnt catch on)
- xcheats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Umm the cost and number of games pretty much speaks for itself doesn't it?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wii Sports is more like a demo, you get a LOT more of those on a 360.
- JigoroKano, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1FFXI
Football Manager
There's 2 it can't play. More will come. - Ranneko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I could have sworn they came out at about $500 AU for core.
- KevinWhite, on 10/10/2007, -12/+13Right, like buying a Wii
- Ranneko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, but the cost and number of games was not comparing them to other consoles, it was comparing the cost, and availability of 360 games in Australia, with the cost, and availability of 360 games from the US.
- Ranneko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It'd be hooked up to my monitor next to my PC, so DVD watching is not a worry, and besides, most of my DVDs are region 4.
Since it is on a PC monitor, wired controllers also not a problem.
Region lock for games though is an inherent problem with any console other than the PS3, at least it is legal to mod it to get around that for the moment anyway. - sunnyd71, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Core 360 is only $10 more than the Wii in Canada now too and the 360 comes with 2 games Free!
- loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4LOL idiot
- in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1This is interesting!
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3That's the weak American dollar in action, right there.
- waynehoggett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0LOL
- iRoy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5Lulz but they still aren't gonna sell. PS3 is king down there from what I hear, plus I've played against a lot of Australians on Resistance.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4Funny how you keep spamming Digg with VGCharts, go to hell with Destructoid!
- Char, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I was kinda expecting more. JB's was selling the premiums for under $550 a month ago and I picked up the Forza 2 pack for $589 at Officeworks at the same time.
- Math, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2The Wii comes with Wii Sports in Australia, the 360 doesn't come with a game.
Also the Wii games tend to be 10-20% cheaper. - vapblack, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1DB King indeed
- psbpv3o, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2NO! Your a dodo head!
- dbking, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7Xbox FTW!
- damnyooneek, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1The Xbox360 is more popular in the US everywhere else its lagging. this shows it
- CptCheerios, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1The price drop is because MS is phasing out the core. Its like the PS3 price cut. So it won't last. They are soon forcing you to get a hard drive.
- JigoroKano, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2It's more like buying a car that will only take diesel... and it happens to have a shoddy radiator.
- username9000, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1The 360 has more and better next gen games than any of the consoles...so that shouldn't be a reason not to get one.
