I will say you can't imply anything about sales directly from a population increase. I suspect most of the population growth came from third world countries that have little to no impact on console sales. Growth rate is typically very low in developed countries.
- Topher06, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1There is a reason they stopped making the original Xbox. Sales stagnated, 3rd party developers dropped the platform in favour of the 360, and Microsoft didn't want to waste any more time or money on a failed system.

(Like Sony decides to bankrupt themselves and start selling PS3's for $100. ;-) )

- Elranzer, on 11/26/2008, -5/+6A lot of the games that are not 360 compatible are the small, less popular games that tend to be good. Also, 360 compatibility is shoddy. You're essentially running it in an emulator... X86 code on the 360's PowerPC cores, and Nvidia-specific API calls emulated on the 360's ATI GPU.
Fable, for example, runs like crap on the 360. This goes for both the original disc or the Xbox Original download on XBLA. There's issues with weird sound, and freezing issues.
I still keep my original Xbox around. I actually bought a fresh new Xbox original in 2005 when the 360 was launched, to make sure it would last. Mostly due to it being softmodded to death, but also to play the original games in a 100% compatible environment (installed to the hard drive, of course). - Jude007, on 11/26/2008, -3/+4I got the need for Live again !
