- MackPrime, on 10/11/2007, -4/+135they shoulda made the error lights blue, everyone would be way more relaxed.
- Zoxy, on 10/11/2007, -12/+120Well considering that they did not have any until recently, I'm not surprised.
- Hipple, on 10/11/2007, -5/+105Supposedly MS has implemented some changes to help the RRoD problem. They'd be phenomenally stupid to put this new warranty in place without figuring out a way to prevent problems.
People seem to forget that MS doesn't want your Xbox to break. They have to pay to fix it every time it breaks. Obviously if they can fix the problem, they'll be doing everything they can to prevent the problem in the future. - sjbdallas, on 10/11/2007, -51/+135Given the price difference, the game library, and now the warranty, I dont' see why anyone considering a new game system wouldn't buy an xbox. ignoring all the fanboy crap, at least you know that any system failures won't cost you.
- zerokill, on 10/11/2007, -22/+75Well it's awesome that they improved warranty but it doesn't change one BIG problem: Your 360 is going to break. It's great that you can get one replaced for 3 years but it's still VERY annoying when it does break and you lose your 360 for 3 weeks.
I hope MS wil start producing 360 that don't break in the first place and that all the issues that you hear about games like Forza and Guitar Hero bricking 360's disappear. They have probably already started this with repaired 360's getting extra cooling. Now it's just waiting until all the production 360 also have the extra cooling. It's great that MS now acknowledges the problem. - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -26/+75"sales" didn't jump, amazon sales rank jumped. And that doesn't mean much, as people can order and then cancel their orders (and do, to manipulate the rank).
Finally, I just checked the list, and the Elite isn't even on the list linked.
Inaccurate. No basis. Probably fanboy crap on top of the rest of the flaws. - neutrino15, on 10/11/2007, -3/+44Nahh, people still have to worry, but their wallets don't!
- Matter0099, on 10/11/2007, -6/+47This digg is a scam, it's not true, and the poster "accidentally" left in their referrer id in the link. Interesting experiment to see if people will buy while they're there, though...
- SuiteXVI, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24Lol. The elite wasn't even available on their site until early yesterday. They've been out for a month or more.Yeah, it was the warranty tho.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+28Or, people no longer have to worry about the Xbox's most infamous problem.
- dunlop, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25shhh... people don't want to hear logic. They want to make themselves feel all warm inside with the console they purchased by bashing the competitors.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Microsoft has been slowly upgrading and improving the cooling of the 360s. Personally I wouldn't buy a new one for a few months, just to make sure the cooling issues have improved.
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -6/+24whereas if they buy a 360 they have plenty of rock solid games now. Everyone knows both systems have great games coming out unfortunately for ps3 few great ones are out now. Also why buy a ps3 now when it's 100 dollars cheaper next week?
- dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18How the hell is still getting dugg?!
The link doesn't show what is described AND it contains a referrer ID!
Maybe Digg needs an "Innacurate Spam" section?! - Alucard90, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16What they should of done was print Don't Panic in large friendly letters on it's side.
- Azerael, on 10/11/2007, -11/+26While you're waiting for your 360 to be repaired, at least you have the piece of mind knowing that PS3 owners haven't got anything to play either.
- Zer0kill, on 10/11/2007, -11/+25Hell I bought my 360 4 months ago and it broke Saturday, I just returned and got my money back. I don't care if they have a ten year warranty it pisses me off that it broke.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+19I said that?
- KMartSheriff, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17Why is he getting dugg down?
Sure it's a 3 year warranty, but the ***** thing shouldn't break in the first place. - Tourney3p0, on 10/11/2007, -25/+37My friend went and bought one the day after the announcement. I told him about the problems I was having with mine, but he told me they wouldn't have extended the warranty if the issues hadn't been fixed.
The return box for his broken console should be here sometime this week. - npsken, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14You should just get a 360 from costco like I did. Everything there has a lifetime warranty. Really: They will take it back for any reason at any time and give a full refund. Just make sure you save the packaging.
- Philodox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12This is one of the lamest submissions I have ever seen. A chart on amazon does not prove sales have increased.
buried. - stephenwq, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Anyone else thought BSOD when they read this?
- CheapyD, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Yes, they were not in-stock unit a few days ago.
- Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17That's great. How does that help you when you're waiting a month or more while your console is in the shop?
- alvinrod, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Does your warrenty extend an additional 3 years whenever you receive a new unit, or does it only last 3 years from the time of your initial purchase?
Considering the fact that the current models of the Xbox 360 are more than likely flawed by design it's only a matter of time until they break. I understand that all products will eventually fail (My PS2 bit the dust after nearly 6 years) but what's the point of the extended warrenty if after my 3 years are up I'm SOL when it fails again? $400 is too much to invest in a product that I'll more than likely need to shell out another $400 for in three years. Failure rates are pegged at around 33% right now, but that's generally for one and a half years of use. What happens to that rate as we hit the 3 year mark?
I really want to get an Xbox 360. Hands down they have the best selection of AAA game titles at this time and some good exclusives that I can't get on other consoles, but I won't be getting one until they release a new version of hardware that doesn't suffer from the same issues as the current generation. - Stopher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Percentages mean nothing. If they had only sold 1 and then they sold 10 that's a 1000 percent increase. Would you still be impressed by sales of 10 units? You need to know the context of the increase. What their total sales were and their percentage of the marketplace.
- encognito, on 10/11/2007, -6/+167 months of use and zero red rings of death and only three freezes! 29 more months of stress-free gaming!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+142400??
bleh, I can't even count that high! - bj00rn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Yeah, we all believe your cute little anecdote..
- neutrino15, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Unless you want one now! I am sure that when they get broken ones, they will upgrade the cooling system in it..
As for "Your 360 is going to break." Not true! Mine hasn't yet... (knock on wood) - totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14Why would anyone buy an Xbox360 right now? Wouldn't you want to wait until you have confirmation from MS (or other sources) that the new machines have been corrected? I think a 3 year warranty is great, and kudos to MS for it...but hopefully they are rolling out new machines that don't have the ring of death problem. I'll wait for confirmation.
- SuiteXVI, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10That's why I'm holding off on a 360. I don't want to have to send it in for constant repairs no matter who's paying for it. Hopefully they will have an updated model soon with ALL of the problems fixed.
- pokmonth, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13actually, price difference is equal now. PS3 just had a price drop at circuit city and target
- Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -10/+19I'm with zerokill on this one.
Yeah, it's great that if your console breaks at anytime within a 3-year period, you'll be taken care of. But, it just plain sucks to not have your $400+ gaming console for 3+ weeks. How can you enjoy something when it's almost a guarantee that it'll break? Possibly several times? - MWeather, on 10/11/2007, -11/+19You mean they don't break anymore?
- profingersk8er, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10the Elite is not on the top list + it was not available on Amazon until recently
Buried as inaccurate!!! - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You should check on CostCo's new warranty policies. The warranty terms for electronics were changed significantly. I think the 360 still is covered, but many items are not.
- DiabolicDestiny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I see no elite on that list buried
- ninamyers, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Elite is NOT on the list linked at all.
Buried as inaccurate. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8360 won't be getting a price drop. MS just gave out 1.5 billion dollars for the new warranty. They won't be so willing to lose more money
- rdoger6424, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8BLOD (Blue Lights of Death)
- totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8nice catch, Matter0099!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Well, I'd say "included", as it's a removable drive, it's not really "built-in".
It's also $20 cheaper than a PS3 (even after the price drop).
On the other hand, the PS3 has Gigabit ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an HD disc player. So there's plenty of things that I didn't mention on both sides of the equation. - TheLD, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Umm, I don't see it
Buried as spam for the referral link - gamer31, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7damn "eye don't think so" would have been so much better :(
- thekronz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I was more shocked that the sales on the PlayStation Memory Card: Gray sales went up 110%!!!!
- leffunov, on 10/11/2007, -3/+924 times isn't alot if you realize they were only selling like 20 a day!!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Yeah. That's what MS said. And just hypothetically, if they hadn't fixed it, what do you think they would have said? "Don't buy the 360! We still can't figure out what is wrong with it."
Nope, they would have said "have no worries, buy buy buy."
Given this, you can't really be sure MS is telling the truth. - Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Rock solid games on a not-so rock solid platform.
It's a toss up. Personally, if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the more reliable system, enjoy the games I can already play on it (which includes virtually all the previous PS games), and wait for the new ones to be released. -
