- Zcott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32You can either run Linux on your 360 or lose your virginity. The choice is yours!
- Shootfast, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Steps towards widespread homebrew on the 360? ***** yes
- carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12i'm just waiting for the day i can retire my xbox and move to xbmc360
- thcobbs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Something is afoot.... This will not end well for semi-technical XBox 360 Owners.
- Juntistik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I disagree, if you know what you're doing you'll be fine, by which I mean you're very knowledgeable the procedures required to achieve this. The failure rate can be decreased heavily if you properly cool your 360, such as removing the X clamp and replacing the piss poor job of thermal paste MS did. If you happen to not know what you're doing, eventually there will be an idiot proof install in the future, such as the audio/font exploits in the original Xbox. Just give it time.
- john2kx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10STFU, please.. If these people wanted to pirate 360 games, they would have done it a long time ago.. This hack is about getting Linux and other homebrew on there.
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Like I said in my other post a waste of time and talent. Stuck in mom's basement hacking the 360 so it can run linux.
"Cool Jim, you have an xbox 360" "Actually, I improved it. It is a linux box now." "What? Does it play games?" "No." - Acglaphotis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Dude, we *can* play games and movies without paying for them. We want Linux and Homebrew.
- Juntistik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6There seems to be a misunderstanding with the views on the modding/hacking community. First off, this is not going to be used to pirate games, we can already do that by flashing the DVD drive firmware, Live can't even detect the latest stealth firmware. So there really is no reason to keep hacking it just so we can play a burned game. This is all about running unsigned code on the 360 (homebrew software).
Unfortunately, if you're just dying to get XBMC360, the XBMC team has no intentions of developing Xbmc360, so cross your fingers. The second best thing to hope for is porting xbmc to the 360. - Farik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thanks for letting us know.
- Asniper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4to bad you won't see a xbmc360, unless someone else ports it. The authors of xbmc said they won't work on a 360 version.
- xerox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Emulators. Oh god the emulators.
- indiephoenix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'd imagine some people like to do it just because it's possible and they aren't satisfied until they have pulled it off. Kind of like the mentality behind climbing a mountain "because it's there".
- Zcott, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3LOL! Thanks for not understanding my comments and letting this hilarity ensue!
- iofthestorm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Uhh, as usual, people don't realize that the reason people crack stuff like this is "because it's there." Just because it might not seem useful to you, doesn't mean someone else can't enjoy the challenge of cracking a multi-billion dollar company's security.
- Dumbledore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He was saying that if you have linux on your 360 that would make you a nerd. Therefore, you would not lose your virginity due to your geekiness. Ya see what he did there?
- Acglaphotis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Where else can i get a tri-core pc for 279$?
- ApolloImBurning, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That is already possible with the hacked DVD firmware already available.
- TheJokerV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2@Spaced, You're getting way too defensive. I'm guessing you're still a virgin. Relax get some money and get a hooker. I might not make you less of a geek but it make allow you to relax and be able to take a joke.
- Acglaphotis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why dont you realize that the xbox 360 is one of the cheapest pc on the market? It's a tri-core power pc clocked at 3.2Ghz, with 512mb of ram and and insane ati graphics card at 299$ or 399$.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2...Then why not just build your own computer?
- jihadjohnson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1XBMC-360 Here I come!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Watch me bury your comment and spam @ http://digg.com/xbox_360/Xbox360_Timing_Attack_Too ..."
- cyberflas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If one is successful in downgrading the kernel, does that also make it possible to play burned games?
- jihadjohnson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I for one choose Linux!!!
- Talus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Another step closer to XBMC360 :)
- TheJokerV, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2One hacker did this a while ago and he spent his time trying to make it more accessible to the masses. Also if you have a new xbox with the extra heat sinks and such I don't think that failure should be a problem.
- Protoss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't think 'semi-technical' 360 owners will attempt, or even know, about this.
- Juntistik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Have you even seen what the original xbox can do if modded? It's amazing discover what you can do with $100 and a little black box...
- pastaq, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1cuz I want a ps2 emulator on my 360. xD
- brandvegn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I still use my XBox more than my 360. This is getting harder to do as movies and tv shows hit 720p and above. I tried to use Media Center with my 360. Clunky, unresponsive, and a pain in the ass to use. MS has got to consider these things when touting a product as an all-in-1 media solution. This may be a secondary application of their product, but it should work well. It's wonderful that a community of coders was able to bring the XBMC to users and I hope they continue to provide for both the Linux community (I have heard they may port) and the 360.
- drewfusb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0xbmc is a beautiful thing. if i could get that on an xbox 360 with support for all the codecs it supplies, id get an xbox 360. i know that the "market spoke" through xbmc because of so much of the media capabilities that came on the xbox 360. honestly, i wish ms could have bought the xbmc project and completely integrated it.
of course you dint do that with open source, but you get what i mean. all of these functionalities should have been built in to begin with, and then all this hacking wouldn't really be occurring. - mydave, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0what you mean saying "timing attack"?

http://www.pcard4u.com - ron1n541, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0amazing
I just hope xbmc changes there mind and ports it to 360
if they don't I'd love to expand on there current codebase
^writes some emails to XBMC^ - Acglaphotis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Where else can i get a tri-core pc for 279$?
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Why would you want a 600 dollar linux PC instead of an xbox 360? Are you people ***** stupid, you can buy a 400 dollar PC that will run linux better than the xbox 360 and actually be expandable, etc...
What a waste of time and talent. - Gir53457, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1So they can play games and movies without paying for them.
- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -13/+6I thought they had done this a month ago. Either way, given the high failure rate and the lost warranty upon modification, it's only useful in case you have a spare box.
- DavidGX, on 10/10/2007, -26/+6Buried to piss off the modder scum.
