UPDATE! Scared kid brings laptop back
twitter.com — This is an update to yesterday's "Wow, You're a MORON" story (http://digg.com/xbox/WOW_You_re_a_MORON). According to the victim's twitter updates, the kid saw his face on the internet and decided to return the laptop. Now, how about the TV and xbox. Once again, good work diggers.

I just needed to apologize and clean the house to avoid staying the night in a cell (as far as I knew). I wasn't a bad kid so I guess it didn't take much for me to learn my lesson. I wonder where this kid's line is.
- smacksaw, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Popular opinion seems to think it's repeated ass-raping.
- GhostyBoy, on 03/24/2008, -0/+19I think one of the main points is that the police didn't do anything.
- thetinguy, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Do they ever? They really never do anything philly anyway.

- biotch, on 03/24/2008, -0/+17Im confused... why would he claim he just bought the laptop?
How did anyone track him if it was just the laptop he stole?
I thought we tracked him via the message he sent about stealing the xbox.- thetinguy, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Thats correct. You forgot on crucial part of the equation, he is a moron.
- dcollins, on 03/24/2008, -1/+20On a side note, could there be any worse format for this article, or update list, or w/e it is?

- loconet, on 03/24/2008, -1/+243According to the victim, the kid said he only bought the laptop? he didn't steal it? C'mon. People don't go returning stolen goods on their own money. The kid obviously a) knew where to return the laptop to start with b) wouldn't just return the laptop he bought to a random person and lose $. So, he must know who has the xbox/tv since chances are, he didn't carry all that out of the house by himself. Who were his accomplices? Roachy? Tabitha (or whatever her name was)? .. This case isn't over yet.
- TheJokerV, on 03/24/2008, -3/+38Well its obvious that he stole the stuff. Now I say he has to return the xbox and turn himself into the police.

- DrCyclops, on 03/24/2008, -0/+11Internet harassment, that's a good one.

- bingobongony, on 03/24/2008, -59/+4And then press charges for internet harassment against this guy who put his info up.
- Yamoth, on 03/24/2008, -5/+22Most likely the author just have pity on the kid and maybe even afraid that some of the crazier digger in here might try something stupid. Either way, if the author is content, we should also call it off and let it go.
- DonTazeMeBro, on 03/24/2008, -2/+21If he gets away with it, he'll just do it again.
- TheJokerV, on 03/24/2008, -2/+4Agreed. I say if he gives everything back and apoligizes he doesn't have to go to jail. He could just be on probation and have himself fingerprinted incase he tries to steal agian.
- davidwasman, on 03/24/2008, -0/+20Consequences are important. Guilt is not enough. He needs to learn a lesson as does anyone else who tries this. Letting him off will only embolden him and anyone else who follows.
He harmed the original owner's sense of security leaving him uncomfortable in his own home. That doesn't go away.
He cost the original owner money and time. That cannot be earned back.
He basically, and in a very ***** way, threatened the original owner. That, too, will remain in the owner's mind. - lostarchitect, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3i think the guy should say, "look kid, i won't call the police on you if you just eat this one dog turd. i'm going to videotape you and post it on the web. so what is it? 1 dog turd or jail time? you have 30 seconds."
- Yamoth, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1The kid most definitely deserve some kind of punishment, but it shouldn't be in the hand of the diggers. More than likely the kid will receive an earful from his parent and some form of punishment. Furthermore, i doubt the cop could really let this go scott free now that this case have somewhat become notorious throughout the net. Further harassment and punishment in the hand of the diggers now would do more harm than good to both the author and the police department.
- 4LI3ER70, on 03/24/2008, -2/+12Agreed. In addition, by admitting that he "purchased" stolen goods, he can still be charged with conversion. Either way, there is no happy ending for the kid in this story.
- doebob11, on 03/24/2008, -1/+13I'd offer him a deal: tell me who you bought it from OR give me back my ***** and mow my lawn for 2 months, and I won't press charges.
- bitterbug, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5You can't negotiate with the person, at least that's they way it's handled here in Canada. Once you enter negotiations with the suspect it becomes a civil matter and the cops no longer have to deal with it.
- maci01, on 03/24/2008, -0/+12Well umm thats sort of the idea.
- bitterbug, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3You don't get it. Once you enter negotiations he can tell you to ***** off and you CAN'T press charges any more.
You would have to sue him instead, and incur the legal costs. - Elliuotatar, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Hows he gonna prove you initiated negotations unless you admit as much?
- bitterbug, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3You don't get it. Once you enter negotiations he can tell you to ***** off and you CAN'T press charges any more.

- Risingashes, on 03/24/2008, -0/+7Makes sense. Clearly his buddies are still at large.
Internet justice must be served. LOLCAT him in to the next century. - EndersGame, on 03/24/2008, -1/+18We know for sure the guy that returned the laptop was responsible for stealing it or he wouldn't have been at a pawn shop trying to pawn it off. I am willing to bet at least two people were involved so they most likely split up the goods so thats why he only returned the laptop and not the xbox 360 and tv. He needs to rat out the other guy so the real owner can get his ***** back.
I know how the owner feels, I just got my laptop stolen a week ago from my house. And of course there is nothing the police can do about it. They don't have the resources, probably because those resources are being spent prosecuting all those dangerous pot smoking villains out there. - FrancisHC, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1> People don't go returning stolen goods on their own money
What would you do if it were you, keep it? If I bought a laptop from this punk, then read about him stealing it, I'd return it to the rightful owner. - glock22ownr, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6Maybe I'm not connecting the dots .. or maybe I am. But he left the guy a message about his X-Box and then returned his laptop? Doesn't that mean he has both ?
- ohcoaster, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6The dood in the pictures did the break in and tried pawning the laptop himself, but he sold the xbox to another kid, and possibly the tv too. There's definitely at least two people involved.
- hotpuck6, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2This is not over at all. To the Mystery Machine Scoob!

- hoghug, on 03/24/2008, -2/+57911-DIGG, can I help you?
Hi, I think somebody's breaking into my house!
Calm down sir. Is your computer on?
What?! No! Why?!
I need you to calm down sir. What you need to do is post something on your blog and hope it gets dugg.
What? I don't have a blog! Oh my God, he's IN the house!
Well, you could always post something on youtube. Sometimes that works. Thanks for calling 911-DIGG!- TheJokerV, on 03/24/2008, -9/+7Holy crap that was hilarious. Well done sir. You win a thousand internets.
- waynetheman, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Actually, this is one of those situations that a gun is for, not the cops. It's not like the police are always going to be just down the street, waiting for *your* house to get burglarized... you take a risk in assuming they'll make it before anything REALLY bad happens....
- Voide, on 03/24/2008, -0/+23Seems good in theory, but it only works when a group as a whole gets behind a cause and rally's behind it. However, the problem with that is, we only like to rally unique and original causes.
So the first guy who gets his xbox, TV, and laptop stolen gets hundreds, if not a thousand plus angry diggers....at his service.
The second guy who gets his xbox, TV, and laptop stolen gets whoever missed the first story...at his service
And the third guy gets reported as a duplicate, and the digg mob moves onto something more dramatic.- opnickc, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4And then I come along and say "OLD! My xbox was stolen 5 months ago and nobody dugg it!"
And then I get buried.
- opnickc, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4And then I come along and say "OLD! My xbox was stolen 5 months ago and nobody dugg it!"

- airmann90, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3Damn, everyone wearing white t shirts... someone took something way too serious eh.
- uselessaccount2, on 03/24/2008, -14/+18While I really hate this kid for stealing this guy`s things, I believe that putting up that much private information about him is a bit too much. It`s not like he murdered someone. He is only 16 years old, and a lot of people around that age tend to be stupid. If the police do something about this (and I really hope they do), and the guy gets all his stuff back, I believe that all of the private information about him should be removed. If he decides to do something stupid again, just post it again until he learns.
- Alfredosauce, on 03/24/2008, -0/+22Its not private information. These are just links to information that he posted himself. All of this info was made available by the kid. Nobody added anything that the kid hadn't posted himself at one time or another. It has been available since before the theft. He posted his info on the internet and the internet is public domain. So what you believe is irrelevant.
- KennMac, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8It'd be different if he didn't harass and taunt the owner of the stolen items. This is just leveling the playing field.
- Navicerts, on 03/24/2008, -1/+6It was too late for that when the first article hit the front page. This is a guilty until proven innocent scenario. Sure, this kid looks and acts like a total dick weed but this is still the wrong way to go about finding justice. The problem isn't with the guy posting this information though, the problem is with the police not doing anything, or saying "call us back on Monday 9-5".
- feshmania, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4I disagree. The second you invade someone else's personal rights, I think you give up yours, such as privacy. He has that guy's stolen property and then has the nerve to harass him? He's some 16 year old punk that needs to be taught that the strongest people don't use brute force to win.
- 8ight, on 03/24/2008, -0/+19Yea, that wiki is brutaly awesome. Kudos to everyone who worked on all of that. Damn, very impressive.

"Dear Internet, thanks for having my back. I am amazed at the response I have had. Unfortunately I think this kid only bought the xbox from the actual robber for $200 and then tried to act tough by leaving me that message, apparently he didn’t know that I roll deep. The kid is scared and I will be in contact with his parents shortly so there’s probably no need to continue harassing him. He is already immortalized by the internet as a MORON!"- bingobongony, on 03/24/2008, -67/+8"did't know that I roll deep"

- bingobongony, on 03/24/2008, -14/+2No it isn't. When a grown man thinks it is cool, or clever, or anything but pathetic to use that phrase you can judge his entire personality. I bet he wears his baseball cap backwards.

The victim has been trying to get people to stop for quite a few hours now, think he realised it had gone too far, because he was the one who started it, and the thief knew exactly where he lived.
So tbh, I don't believe it has been returned, but its up to the victim what happens. - monkeestylee, on 03/24/2008, -1/+131so forget reporting it to the police, report stolen items to digg from now on

- nextexiter, on 03/24/2008, -1/+6Can we at least agree that if he IS guilty, that he ought to be dismembered in a bloody fashion for violating another person's sense of safety and security, and taking the equivalent of many hours of their hard effort in terms of monetary loss? The time spent earning the wages needed to purchase those items is fairly significant. Days or weeks of sweat and lost time... if someone stole weeks from my life I would think they deserved a shattered face at the least.
- fakekevinrose, on 03/24/2008, -6/+1Are you a ***** moron? Did you not know that the internet is serious business?
No one is going to accomodate for your sensitivities, why dont you grow up instead. - ezman700, on 03/24/2008, -4/+4Well stated, johnjohnstonson. At first, I, too, thought it was hilarious that this kid was such a moron; however, as I read more and more into this, I'm starting to feel bad for the kid. Surely he is a moron and certainly deserves some repercussion, but nearly as surely, I believe, should this not have happened to him. Think about if you were in his position! You all are a bunch of bullies, and I don't think anyone deserves what has happened to him!
- Condemned, on 03/24/2008, -2/+18But we all had raging clues...
- everkorn81, on 03/24/2008, -5/+50Everyone seems to have forgotten about a very similar incident to this, where some guy got his camcorder stolen, posted the thief's personal information in the internet (which was then posted on Digg), and received criminal charges for violating her privacy or something like that. I'm glad the person in this case got his laptop back, but I sure hope none of the people involved in posting this minor's personal info get in trouble the way the camcorder owner did.

- chrgrose, on 03/24/2008, -0/+35So let me get this straight: He has confessed to buying this guys X-box "on the streets" and subsequently personally returned his laptop which apparently he also says he bought? I think he is still underestimating the interwebs and the digg army.

Do we have names, phone numbers, the school this kid goes to? There are SO many possibilities (e.g. mailing bomb threats to the city hall or school, e-mailing bomb threats to the white house, sending fake anthrax letters to the white house, sending letters saying he's gonna shoot up his school... all in his name) that you guys aren't taking advantage of.- Professr, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4That's because, even in a delicious mob of ironic justice, we still have some boundaries.
- bwdd, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1We have his ***** address, if you want to go further, do it yourself!
