- Inverno, on 10/10/2007, -3/+37The only reason I bought the game is because I wanted "Freedom Mode" which wasn't there. I really just want a sandbox full of zombies, is that so much to ask?
- BrutusCirrus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31They should have a mode where you are on a rooftop like in Dawn of the Dead where you have to find and shoot celebrities with a Barret.
- TalkingBanana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27I thought that it would be really cool if the sequel was set in like a small city or town instead of a mall. Imagine fighting zombies on rooftops or something like that. Also, online co-op or multiplayer is a must.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21FTA: "...weapons that are, like The Tick, neigh-invulnerable. What is neigh? Exactly."
That's NIGH invulnerable, sir. The word you're using is the sound that horses make. - bwayne1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Ok, better compatibility with SD TV sets is a given... but otherwise, this dude wants Dead Rising to be more of a cakewalk. More explosives, more save points, indestructible weapons, lasers, and be able to attack while riding a bike? While you're at it, why don't you ask for Orange Julius shakes that make you permanently immune to zombie bites? Give me a break. Part of the appeal of Dead Rising is the challenge. Staying alive during a zombie infestation ain't supposed to be no piece of cake, people.
Deservedly so, Dead Rising made the list of "Ten Best Zombie Media":
http://www.greatwhitesnark.com/2007/08/20/the-best-zombie-media-to-feed-your-brain/ - LogicBomB, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Honestly, this list could have been shortened to these:
1. Better controls - moving WHILE aiming could be useful for a change
2. Better save points OR more save points - I just LOVED losing 20-30 minutes of gameplay at a time.
3. Being hit while aiming doesn't take you out of aiming - because god forbid we are able to line up a shot before loosing a quarter of our health.
4. NPC "rules" - hold down some button over the NPC and you get a prompt for "stay here" "keep up" "defend yourself" and "supress". Trying to clear 400 zombies out of the way just so the NPC doesn't slap-fight every weapon-weilding zombie was not fun.
Done. - gd1z, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10You could take time out of the missions to just run around the mall and kill zombies. How much more freedom do you want?
- JayFyve, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11How about no loading screens? It's hard to believe in this day and age that we are still stuck with loading screens.
- moocow1452, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Digg 101: The horse goes neigh. The Tick goes SPOOONNN!
- vhold, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I have to agree. As annoying and frustrating as it was sometimes, it also provided adrenaline and a feeling of accomplishment and real relief when you pulled things off. I don't always want that much stress when playing a game, so I can see how some people would be completely intolerant to it.
- Lennalf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7#3 on the list should be #1. It's complete ***** that Capcom made a game that is virtually unplayable on standard def, and refused to fix the problem after thousands of people complained! How hard is it to program text that can be scaled in size!? I've even seen 16:9 high-def setups where the text was almost impossible to read. What the hell, Capcom!?
- Prathik89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Left4Dead
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Addendum: SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
- SlamShut, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Shhh! You're supposed to pretend that all 360 exclusives are crap!
- TheKricket, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i gotta say - i think this list sucks - it takes MOST of what makes this game so fun and intense and tries to "dumb it down"
- easier to perform special moves? thats the point - theyre special moves - they are supposed to be more difficult...
- infinity mode without health depletion? the point is to see how long you can survive...
- new control system? because the original was difficult?
- a "save anywhere" save system? part of the fun was retaining as much life as possible to make it back...
- lasers?
- unbreakable weapons?
why doesnt this guy just tell us what he really wants: a cheat code that allows for unlimited life and weapons... - BrandonMills, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5See, the Internet is flooded with Top 10 lists. This is Top 20, so that's COMPLETELY different :) *cough*
- thatgreekguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ehh...the list is kind of lame. Its asking for way too much, and like bwayne1 said, part of the game's appeal is the challenge. The save system to me isperfect, except the fact that its single slot. THAT is annoying. Also, the explosives. I mean, granted the sequel might not take place in a mall again, maybe somewhere bigger, but...where the hell would someone find satchel charges and c4 in a small town? Right next to the plutonium at the corner drugstore!?
And unbreakable weapons/frickin lasers. Again, that would just make the game too easy. Its annoying, yeah. but thats how you strategize. Plus, if anyone who's played dead rising knows, once you kill adam colton, you get the mini chainsaws, and thats it. Add that with the engineering book or the blades book, and the game is 100x easier.
But the rest is pretty good. the Control system is pretty tight, but alot of times when i want to pull off a double lariat i just get my ass chewed good. His "golf ball in sock" idea gave me the idea that maybe...improvised weapons should be added. you break some glass, get duct tape, and a handle. and you have a knife! or something...i gotta work out the kinks. And the complete freedom mode would be sweet too. and definitely upgraded AI, or a command system like LogicBomB said. - BootsElectric, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5#17: Explosives
What the hell? They want high powered explosives, frag grenades and satchel charges? You're locked in a friggin mall, not Halo 2. - kelbear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I liked the limiting save system, but I don't represent the majority of the people who played the game. Most didn't like it.
And I think a game should try to make as many people happy as possible, it wouldn't be smart to cater to just the minority. They tried something a little different with mixed success. - vhold, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, I think they intended you to restart the game a few times before beating it. I went straight through once, but I don't think I would have had I known that you can carry over all your character progress into the beginning of a new game.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3a better save system.. I know some people like it but I didn't..
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Real MegaBuster makes the game a cake walk.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+272 hours (6 in real time) not enough for you?
Then start over when you're done and play again! - Drewboy64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Zombie babies+ Jack Thompson= I'm not touching that one.... lol! He'd sh*t a brick if he heard that.
It's going to be like the little sisters in BioShock. - NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nope. I own a PS3 and a 360, Dead Rising is my favorite game this gen.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"How about: don't force players to do stuff?"
Dead Rising 1 had that. You weren't forced to do anything. You could stay on the helipad till time ran out and beat the game. - CrazyForSW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wouldn't mind Otis so much if you could listen to him AND kill zombies at the same time. Speaker phone anyone?
Also, if they do end up making a sequel PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep the mall setting. - E7ernal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2***** top ten lists... here's a top twenty (don't tell the experts).
- ShadowXOR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This list is extremely stupid. Buried.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9Looking at the list, there are things I don't want. DRs save system was perfect, a save anywhere system would ruin the rush.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Or, you could just not get the weapon. It's there for fun.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am a huge fan of Dead Rising -- and it is the reason I originally picked up my 360. I also really enjoy the various Zombie flicks out there...
Some features DR2 needs to have:
Persistant Zombies -- If i clear a room, i'd want that room to stay clear*
More use of obstacles - Should be able to to pick up objects, and barricade doorways, hallways etc and establish your own "safe zones" as the zombies attempt to bash them down. (NOTLD boarded up house anyone?)
I dont think another Mall is the optimal setting for DR2 .. i'd like to see something like an abandoned missile silo (Day of the Dead)
Seamless area transitions -- the load screens detract from the game
Save system - I dont think it should change much -- I think that is one of the major high factors in Dead Rising .. you can't just save anywhere and you get some serious fright/adrenaline from going into unexplored areas .. you just dont know if you're going to make it back! A fully featured save system would ruin this.
Online Co op -- DEFINITELY .. think 8 players..
More freedom to play sandbox-style ... to explore the game world a little further
"Build your own objective" play style -- start the game over and set your own objectives (which can give rewards based on its difficulty) ... (save 40 people in 2 days, for example) This would allow a lot of replayability. - skeletonsquid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thank you very much! I read all these comments looking for one sane person!
- JoeViturbo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I started playing this game right before classes started at college. After playing for a few hours, I'd get some pretty weird ideas while standing among all the people in registration lines. Setting this game at a university would be awesome. Imagine smacking zombies with textbooks, microscopes, etc. the physics lab would have experimental lasers!!! Seriously though, so many things about this game were great it is more like nit-picking to complain. A lot of the suggestions on this page are just due to differences in design vision. I must admit, bodies that didn't disappear would be a great addition to the game.
- allisonaxe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2what i'd want is this: set it in a different location than another shopping mall. we've done shopping mall already, how about a small suburban town? i'd imagine it could be done, have a few different "districts:" a couple housing areas, a High School (spoiler alert: the ending of the first game involves infected children in many different US regions, maybe that could be the starting out point?), a hospital, a 'main street' with a dozen or so small shops, and..... a department store at the end of it. that would be AWESOME, and though a larger scale than the first game, i don't think it would be beyond their ability.
- JoeViturbo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.somethingawful.com/d/video-game-article/dead-rising-strategy.php If you didn't read it when the game came out. Read it now. This is hilarious and the way I played the game the first 7 times. This way should reward you for playing the game as realistically as possible
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you beat the game there was a survivor mode that was like a free mode.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Would it be to much to ask if the guy could actually run faster"
Learn how to mix drinks. There is one that makes you run faster. He's a reporter, not a long distance sprinter. - dethsesh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2save anywhere sucks, there used to be a day where you could lose 6 hours of ninja gaiden because your nes just froze and you had to do it all over again, but you didnt care because the game is FUN
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Get a better gun, hold the R trigger in
- inactive, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1I hope they ignore all of your suggestions.
- inactive, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1You didn't have to listen to Otis at all if you didn't want to
- inactive, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1You were under NO obligation to beat any missions, you had the freedom to do whatever you wanted for 6 hours.
- inactive, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1The aiming was perfect. Stand still and it even aims for you
- Scarfy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Readable text would be a good start.
- hokeywebb22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yes because no one would be upset about a game where you can kill a baby.
Also adjusting Ottis should be number 1. That is the only reason I stopped playing the game. Having to stop every 5 minutes and answer a call which makes you stop fighting for text that I couldn't read. - peterberry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This happens all the time. A developer makes a game and people start saying they should have done this or that. Well when the developers do make a game that has the "this and that" people complain that it should have been the other way.
The point is not everyone has the same taste. Dead Rising was supposed to be "hardcore". Instead of changing Dead Rising and possibly ruining what others have enjoyed about it, someone could make a different zombie game that does cater to the "this and that" crowd. - jnosanov, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Aiming lock on would be great! The game devolves from a next gen masterpiece to an NES era frustration whenever you try to aim at a boss.
- devjunkie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Yeah, for a limited time, but that's not what he's talking about.
"Freedom mode" means no restrictions - time included. -
