  • gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+84Well you knew it wouldn't suck, Bungie and MS made their best effort on this one. So many games aren't done as well as they could be, it's nice to have a few you know reflect the state of the art. I am sure Sony and Nintendo have things in the pipeline that will reflect their best efforts as well. In the end it's all good for us, the consumers.

  • SuperSunny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31You don't seem to understand how the Halo 3 Engine (Blam 3 I believe) works. I develop maps for Halo 1 and 2, and I've played around with the engines on both multiple times.

    They didn't sacrifice anything of that sort. The 360 can easily handle what the game shows, it's more of what the engine is capable of doing. Bungie doesn't aim for DirectX 10-Style super Parallax Mapping and crazy shader effects to eventually make things look a bit more like plastic. They aim for high quality lighting, and a strong developmental process. The game looks VERY good, in fact, quite realistic, as long as you don't compare it to the Unreal Engine and such. It's just very different, but it doesn't really lack graphically (except the Beta, but from what was announced, things have been fixed).

It will be crazy what people do with the forge considering if you played live on halo 2 all the games people were able to come up with such limited ways of changing it. The dungeon master idea is incredibly cool I cannot wait for it.

While I am not a huge fan of Halo, I do understand what it means for the industry as a whole and all the publicity is further pushing the game industry into the upper echelon of media and entertainment.

To me, this game looks better than say Gears of war or Rainbow six or other Unreal engine games. It seems that Halo's engine goes for much more realistic lighting and more environmental detail, whereas the others went for crazy colors and over-contrasted lighting. I guess what I'm saying is that to me, Halo 3's graphics aren't worse than other games on the platform, just DIFFERENT, and amazing as well.
