- dansmeek, on 02/24/2008, -6/+506finally. ive had bioshock sitting on the bookshelf collecting dust for months. have no idea how to use this thing. i cant' figure out how to put this memory ting shaped like a frisbee into this darn 360. i tried unplugin the 360. turning the lights on and off. and blowing on it. all to no luck.
i also like to use one hundred dollar bills as toilet paper.
so geek squad is a perfect match for me. - plethorex, on 02/24/2008, -8/+334Sadly, I have no doubt that Best Buy would not only charge you to "install" the game, but then also charge you phantom fees for virus scanning and "optimization."
- Enche, on 02/24/2008, -7/+282Putting the disc in your 360 must cost hundreds too.
- GlossGreen, on 02/24/2008, -0/+226Never underestimate the stupidity of the average consumer.
- hater2win, on 02/24/2008, -7/+179This is a nitpicking incident I'm sure. I used to work for the Geek Squad and we would occasionally use the security game cases to hold memory or flash drives or other small tech items out on the floor. We would put the Geek Squad Install stickers on them accordingly (memory, software, etc) and occasionally they would get mixed in with the game cases up at the front when people check out. I am sure they didn't put this on the game case intentionally.
- JAG731, on 02/24/2008, -0/+126What you don't know is if they install it, you get the geek squad install achievement.
- spudnic, on 02/24/2008, -0/+91I had the same problem, apparently it's a box, there's this disk thing inside. I tried putting it inside my Xbox but I don't have the right size screwdriver to get the thing open. Seems like an awful lot of hassle, I'd happily pay them to do it for me.
Even if they do though I can't work out where it displays the game, there's no display on the Xbox.
The drink holder on the front comes in handy though. - PathDaemon, on 02/24/2008, -2/+78No. I've seen many shops in my day and finally come to realize that NOT EVERYTHING IS ***** PHOTOSHOPPED.
This has almost certainly happened some place, some time, accidently or on purpose, and someone could easily have been there to take the picture. Looks real enough to me, anyway — there are no artifacts around the label but there is visible bloom, which is common with small, smudged lenses like those on camera phones. - yellising, on 02/24/2008, -1/+74Will they remove the plastic cover for me too?
- us3r11, on 02/24/2008, -1/+64To be fair to Best Buy/Geek Squad they reuse those security cases so it may have been on an installable piece of software or hardware at one point. Just my two cents.
- DLPizzle, on 02/24/2008, -0/+60actually, I think he did get the sarcasm. His response just wasn't funny.
He basically said that getting a game console is a scam and that you plug the game into the tv.
see, not funny (sorry, noodhog, get'em next time tiger) - smashingmonkey, on 02/24/2008, -2/+59If you pay a little extra, they'll play it for you too.
- JAG731, on 02/24/2008, -2/+52Achievement unlocked: You're a dumbass
- MatchStick, on 02/24/2008, -4/+50LOL, i work at best buy (not a geek), this must just be a mistake, they put those stickers on computer software... but if u do ask them to install it, i'm sure they'd gladly take your money
- Yarkz, on 02/24/2008, -0/+42Thank you for optimizing my Bioshock I never knew adding all those scratches while handling the disc helped!
- Hayaemsay, on 02/24/2008, -0/+40About that whoosh you just heard...
- SeventhSon, on 02/24/2008, -1/+38You mean the shiny side of the disk goes down? No wonder none of my games ever worked.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -2/+36Someone should call and find out.
- Slade605, on 02/24/2008, -1/+34Not everyone has appendages, jerk.
- riznich, on 02/24/2008, -8/+41I am a Computers supervisor at a Best Buy store in Louisville and I will simply say this. Best Buy does not have GS install games on a 360 - or any other console for that matter. The cases are universal security devices used across the store. When a customer purchases something in a case it gets dropped in a bin then returned to the warehouse at the end of the night. The next morning when the Media department cases the games UPS delivered the evening prior they just grab cases out of a bin. When you case hundreds of items at 6:00 am you really aren't looking at a sticker on a case.
I find it silly that something like Geek Squad is being discussed on digg. The audience of digg is pre-filtered with people who have at least half a clue about technology; however, that is still a minority in the grander scheme of things. If you are informed enough to install it yourself good for you, Geek Squad is not for you. However, there are tons of people who about mess their pants at the thought of setting up a secure network or installing a copy of Microsoft Office. It is no different that Pep Boys or Jiffy Lube or any other auto repair shop. If you know how to work on your own car don't take your car to them - they are there for the people who don't know how to work on their own car. The Geek Squad pricing is set based on research groups, test studies agent costs, etc. If you as a consumer feel that it is too expensive look at the bottom of your receipt. There is a website www.bestbuycares.com. Enter the information about your shopping experience and leave any applicable comments there. You can also call 1-888-best-buy to talk with someone at a corporate level. Complaining on digg and griping on digg does nothing except announce your own ignorance. - KrayzieKyd, on 02/24/2008, -12/+42It's actually real. Best Buys all around the country randomly put Geek Squad stickers on products, especially video games. You're right, you're not an expert, nor are you xkcd. This is not photoshop.
- noodhoog, on 02/24/2008, -0/+26Pfft. You may laugh, but you'll be sorry when you discover your 360 isn't Y2K compliant - what if it falls into a timewarp, goes back to 1999 and doesn't work anymore?! Then you'll wish you'd shelled out $500 for Geek Squad's services!
- hove, on 02/24/2008, -3/+27re read it,
now who is your comment more applicable to? - inactive, on 02/24/2008, -0/+24just don't go above 88 miles per hour while transporting it and you won't have a problem.
- ggnictee, on 02/24/2008, -1/+24oh don't be rational, it would ruin everyones fun. It's not like every best buy (and every retailer with tech support) is given rolls and rolls of those stickers and put them on every security case in the store and the tech service (even the geek squad) wouldn't just laugh if you actually took it up to them.
Do you see how your "reality" isn't as funny? - colosis, on 02/24/2008, -20/+41*sigh*
theres people who gets sarcasm, and theres people like u - 4LeggedtriPod, on 02/24/2008, -0/+21No *****. That's the irony of the ENTIRE ***** PICTURE!!!!
- ScionX, on 02/24/2008, -2/+23Nobody is complaining, people just find it amusing.
- Coffeedemon, on 02/24/2008, -0/+19Those are speed lines. They maximize the extraction of the awesome.
- ECas123, on 02/24/2008, -1/+18Looking at you user name on digg I'm guessing you're the token douche bag at partys that still thinks it funny to ask people to pull your finger.
- Richjt92, on 02/24/2008, -3/+20Straight from the PR Department at Best Buy Corporate....
- captoftheworld, on 02/24/2008, -1/+17After diagnostics are done.
- andnever, on 02/24/2008, -3/+18actually, the traps are used for many things (including holding ram) so the sticker was put on the trap when something else was inside it(like ram). but by all means lets jump to the irrational answers first.
- Philbert, on 02/24/2008, -0/+13I have too at one time, in the media section, it's not even a mistake, the boxes get shared all over the store.
- monkeyvoodoo, on 02/24/2008, -0/+13Can you blame them?
- sparced, on 02/24/2008, -1/+14Maybe the reason why every 360 in existence has failures is because people aren't inserting the discs correctly.
- KennMac, on 02/24/2008, -3/+16Not sure what boobies have to do with this, but it's welcomed distraction to this boring thread!
- K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 02/24/2008, -2/+14I work at Circuit City, sometimes we put stickers on the plastic security boxes for games that say "10% off with gamers club card", then we use the same boxes on the RAM and people try and get 10% off that too. :P
- NaziHatinChimp, on 02/24/2008, -1/+13My bad, my bad.
- melonade, on 02/24/2008, -0/+11Doshindude: Wait, guys... this picture doesn't make any sense...
- smoomoo31, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10I also work at Best Buy, and this is a normal occurrence. Things that DO need those stickers are put up, sold, then we re-use the case with video games. Sometimes we run out of the right size case for games, and we can't keep up and stuff like this goes unrecognized. The stickers are a bitch to peel off, so we just leave them. Normally customers just come up, joke about it with us, and then we're on our separate ways.
- LStone, on 02/24/2008, -3/+13Maybe if it was the PS3 version of DMC4.....
- therodersabides, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10He shouldn't be dugg down, this is true. They often times have RAM in these same cases. While most of us wont have any problems with RAM (or Bioshock) others will need their shiny new gig stick installed for them.
- Errdoth, on 02/24/2008, -0/+10You should take them up on it, just to see what they do.
- ECas123, on 02/24/2008, -1/+10Wow wow wow man! What are you, Rockafella'? you gotta pay the big bucks for that!
- Metatron197, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9whoosh
- defectDS, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9And for everyone else, there's MasterCard.
- zeromancer, on 02/24/2008, -0/+9win.
