- mrdeadhead, on 11/12/2009, -8/+61it's funny because it's not really new technology.
- jbmcb, on 11/13/2009, -1/+41HIV vaccine, Inc. and NASA apparently don't advertise in Time magazine enough.
- jacksons98, on 11/12/2009, -11/+44Is this Time magazines way of pretending to be hip or something? Better invention than AIDS or teleportation really?
They have demos of Playstation Eye doing the same thing as Natal from years ago.

Natal is just MS re-marketing old technology. It was dumb then it's dumb now. - ocean17, on 11/12/2009, -5/+34Someone's had a perspective-bypass or a kickback.
- iRoy, on 11/13/2009, -6/+23Wonder how much Microsoft paid.
- martin987, on 11/13/2009, -1/+17You should realize at this point you're reading a comment on a webpage that links to an article that talks about another magazine article.
Yes, that's messed up. - Foxprowl, on 11/12/2009, -1/+11Full list can be found here:
http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/complet ... - SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/13/2009, -3/+12I bet Natal is going to be the best hour of fun you've ever had before the novelty wears off!
And that's certainly better than just not having AIDS. /s - ousthouse, on 11/13/2009, -1/+9Don't they announce an AIDS vaccine pretty much every year?
- AndrewDB, on 11/13/2009, -3/+10Welcome to Time's review squad.
More biased than Fox News, if you pay em enough, they'll advertise for you. - mrdeadhead, on 11/12/2009, -5/+11its' a list of things invented in 2009, not good ideas of 2009.
- the8thbit, on 11/13/2009, -2/+8In other news:
We have an AIDS vaccine now? That's fantastic! - joeTaco, on 11/13/2009, -1/+7I think inajeep's point was that the HIV vaccines are still in early testing, they haven't even been tested on humans yet AFAIK and we aren't likely to see a real vaccine in 2010. We really have no idea when/if it will happen.
- goomba323, on 11/13/2009, -1/+6How come I haven't heard about this teleportation invention!?!? If teleporting was invented I'd be a lot more motivated to go places.
- Ajajadude, on 11/13/2009, -2/+7Neither does Natal since, ya know, it's not being released for another year (assuming Microsoft maintains the timetable on that).
- evilresident, on 11/13/2009, -2/+7It's already invented.
I believe the verb you're looking for is 'released'. - jrm125, on 11/13/2009, -5/+10Buried for ***** Band Hero thumb.
Also...sensationalist crap. - Csaliture, on 11/13/2009, -2/+7I like the part where they honor innovations that haven't been created yet.
Seems kind of pointless. Like honoring our ability to create wormholes to other galaxies... - joeTaco, on 11/13/2009, -1/+6we don't really, it's a misleading article. We might soonish but nothing is certain yet.
- mrdeadhead, on 11/13/2009, -1/+6no... the AIDS vaccine is.
motion tracking, not so much. - Dragonis, on 11/13/2009, -3/+7you're right... a video game accessory is a much better "invention" (actually just an improvement of old tech) then a Knee replacement that's $20 or even the Solar Shingle.
This list also has the No Punt Offense listed above Levitating Mice, which could provide a lot of benefit for medicine. What's even funnier is the fact that the no Punt Offense... actually punted once. - GrampaNoOp, on 11/13/2009, -2/+6as a very long time gamer, i don't give a crap about natal. it's a niche market, prancing around while playing games is not in my future plans (nice try don matrick). this is something obviously bought and paid for ms pr.
comparing that to aids vaccine is ridiculous - milwaukeesbeast, on 11/13/2009, -0/+4Dynsons Bladeless fan got on there? They have had those in airplanes for ***** years
- inajeep, on 11/13/2009, -0/+4Yes, that is what I was trying to get at.
- deaftly, on 11/13/2009, -2/+6At least Natal will be affordable
- Jhonka, on 11/13/2009, -1/+4OMFG NOT THE "BLADELESS" FAN AGAIN
GO AWAY YOU INACCURATELY MARKETED WORTHLESS GARBAGE - copypastry, on 11/13/2009, -1/+4I just invented an AIDS virus that can teleport.
- sgxyay, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3It exists, its just not out yet. Just like that AIDS vaccine. Not that I'm defending the choice or anything though.
- efitz11, on 11/13/2009, -0/+3i'm surprised obama didn't win
- camilos007, on 11/13/2009, -6/+8A lightbult, a thermostat and a rocket came in front of the vaccine too. And the Vaccine only works 31% of the time so it might never even make it to market.
Sensational title FTW. - thelastcivilian, on 11/13/2009, -1/+3You know what's a niche market? People with AIDS.
Just sayin' - qazws, on 11/13/2009, -5/+7Natal is not out yet to the public so Time magazine can't honor something just yet. WTF AIDS vaccine and teleportation should be honor. Project Natal uses several cameras, plus a highly specialized microphone and a lot of fancy software, to track the gamer's body and interpret his or her voice", Total BS.
- datdamonfoo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2Er, it's been demo'd on television many times. You can't buy the AIDS vaccine either.
- themastersb, on 11/13/2009, -1/+3I remember when I paid them to put me on the cover of their magazine once and all they did was put a mirror on the cover.... *****....
- jrm125, on 11/13/2009, -1/+3i hope you forgot the /s
- datdamonfoo, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2How else would you prove it works other than demonstrating that...it works....?
I think you're painting Xbox 360 users with a broad brush. I never hated the Wii's controls. I think the Wii's game selection is terrible, however. - spectecjr, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2*sigh* Mind you, this list is all screwed up anyway. Woohoo! NASA learns how to make mice levitate? Another bunch of people were doing it with frogs TWELVE YEARS ago.
http://www.alara.net/xbooks/frogs.html - joeTaco, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2lol... but the vaccines aren't for people with AIDS.
- inajeep, on 11/12/2009, -14/+16Perhaps it was chosen because we are likely to see Natal next year?
- sgxyay, on 11/13/2009, -1/+2Yeah, I'm not terribly interested in it either. Though, it could be a cool supplement to using the controller if you use them at the same time and the games are set up like that. Plus there are rumors it may only be $50, which is not a bad price.
- Aaron_Einstein, on 11/13/2009, -1/+2...there's an aids vaccine? :S
- deathstryk, on 11/13/2009, -2/+39. Tweeting by thinking.
the list looses its credibility. - matt10187, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1I lost respect for TIME when they ran a cover story a few months ago that said that exercising doesn't make you lose weight.
- justjk88, on 11/13/2009, -1/+2wow! video games > then teleporting and aids vaccine? That's just freaking dumb... I wonder how much they got paid from microsoft? i hope they got paid from microsoft cause then that would at least make sense as to why natal is even on the list when it didn't even come out this year let alone at number five....
- thisthatwhat, on 11/13/2009, -1/+1There's no proof it works unless you demo it. Sure, maybe my use of words were wrong. It's just a beta product until it's released much more than a proof of concept.
People are super excited for it just because they are 360 fan boys hate the Wii motion controls. Now look their favorite xbox has got something better... Well, if you guys never liked the motion controls then what makes you think you'll like the more advanced version with no controller? It's just a 1-upped fanboy battle. - robersz, on 11/13/2009, -1/+1Maybe if the writer had AIDS instead of an Xbox360 the outcome would've been different.
- diggmeordie, on 11/13/2009, -1/+1Somebody wanna wrestle a teleporter right here?
- hughesw2, on 11/13/2009, -5/+5maybe natal is just that good
- thisthatwhat, on 11/13/2009, -3/+3You can't even buy Natal. We don't even know what the games will be like and how it will feel? It's still more of a proof of concept more than anything...
- Flan26, on 11/13/2009, -2/+2The RROD that goes along with the AIDS vaccine is a little more depressing, thus it dropped a few notches.
